I haven't done anything artistic in a while (let alone BACKGROUNDS) because of work and general family bullcrap, but I had two days off...! And...! This happened. And now I'm pushing the limits 'cause I gotta get up in about six hours to open the store. I ARE SMURT.Anyway, have some sexy mermen type creature dudes. <3
Sketched the characters separately in openCanvas, inked them separately in Photoshop 7, then put them together and colored them. I think the whole process took around 15 hours altogether. That background tried to kill me! *cries*
[edit] Oh yeah.. at some point during this I realized that I couldn't/was too lazy to paint bubbles. So I made a bubble brush. HOORAY, VICTOLY!

Everything about this piece is a beaut. I especially like your take on merpeople. None of that typical "half on top/half on bottom" weirdness. And their skin is so wonderfully amphibious. Is that a word? "Oh well" if it's not.

Oh my god, your coloring is just... hnfjkgnhjkfgnhfghh. I don't know how you do things like this. It's amazing. It's such a complete and detailed piece, everything just flows so well! Your lineart is so freaking smooth, hot damn. And I love the colorations of the mermen, the way their patterns kind of speckle out.
I also like how long and elegant their flipperfeet look.

The secret (at least for nice digital line art in Photoshop and probably a lot of other art programs) is HUGENESS. And apparently this thing called "patience", I don't quite understand it. (Or maybe it's more like "determination", another concept beyond me.) I did this at 300dpi, somewhere close to 5000x5000px. @_@ If you look at the thing at full size, the line art is nowhere near as clean as it looks at 72dpi (or 50, I think I set the dA version to), haha.
