Oooo this makes me drool in anticipation of a finished piece like this. Gnyar! Love the expression and tension here; it's great to see Katara with a little bit of *grin* feminine plotting sexuality.
Zutara is the truth of things and I don't care what insanity they try to smash into things. Hopefully when things pick back up next month they'll make more sense. Random shipping WTF's my brain. Kataang makes sense on one level, but is so unworkable. And the Maiko thing has to be a symptom of temporary insanity on Zuko's part o0;
I mean... you've seen me run through a forum throwing rose petals cause I'll descend into goofy-sugar-level with my love for T every once in a while. But... Zuko doing it? Um... I still haven't recovered from that saccharine mush crap. WTF. It wasn't even the natural kind of sugar, just that artificial sweetener that leaves the bad fake diet taste in your mouth. Yargh. Now I need cookies to fix it. Yugh.
BUT YOUR ART IS AWESOME
Quit hiding it in your scraps, will you? Unfinished pieces I can see, but most of these sketches are postable quality. Don't make me feature your scraps luv ^x^

X3 Why thank you, hehe. I like to think so too. XD Just think, it could be sort of a Dancing with the Stars of Avatar, haha! These two would be a shoe-in.

HAHA. Yes.
And while the dancing scene was visually STUNNING, it irked me. They tried to throw in random shipping, and it nearly ruined the scene. They were trying so hard, they had Aang leading this dance, when he is so much physically slighter than Katara it just wouldn't work, and he even threw his leg up over her head a few times, and unless she was squatting, that's yet another move that wouldn't be physically possible, due to their height differences. I mean, if they're gonna for the Kataang, who am I to stop them? But they could at least oblige to make it believable. And that was only half of what was wrong with the episode. I won't even get started on the Maiko. *shakes head*
They DO look good together, and they fit each other so well.
YAY. I'm so glad you like this! ^^ In the forefront dancing scene, they're very deliberately not touching, but the tension snapping between their closeness is so taught, it's more intimate than if they were pressed cheek to cheek. And in the smaller one at the top, they touch only at the press of their hands. The point of this dance would be to have the partners showcase the way they move off of and around each other, a style that would flow from one partner to the other as they step as if displaced by each other's own movements.
Gyah, I'm not even making sense. I'm no choreographer, that's for sure. But it's a gorgeous, sexy dance in my head.
I'll do my best to keep the Zutara dancing pics coming, but no promises. It's totally fun to draw, but can stress my limitations to the point of frustration on occasion.
Lhug: I'm glad you like it! ^^ Did you see the other Zutara dancing pic?

The dance itself was really cool, and Aang has always been fun and charming and humorous. He'd be a very personable, popular sort of kid if the world weren't resting on his shoulders. Hell, it is, and he is anyways. I adore Aang. And the relationship as I perceive it between him and Katara is sweet and dependable. What bothered me was the way the writers seemed to be throwing the fandom a bone, with Katara's random blushing and jealousy.
Other than that, it was GREAT. I loved how they danced like they were pros (though the ending of the dance made me think someone in production had been watching too much Dirty Dancing ) and the movements themselves were extremely intricate and intriguing. It really is a whole 'nother culture we're getting a peek at. And I ESPECIALLY adored the way Katara's competitive streak and natural desire to show people what she can do came through. That was awesome. And a little niggling part of my imagination wants to go back to the Fire Nation school and explore not only the way it works there, but the relationships Aang could have formed should he continue to attend.
Maiko doesn't really bother me in and of itself. It bores me, a little. Kinda cute, yeah, but ultimately not very exciting or interesting. What annoyed me so much was the rushed way the writers seemed to just cobble it together, and I DID get to read their little date comic in the Nickmag. It struck me the same way. Like someone had decided "By damn, we ARE going to have Mai and Zuko get together, and we're gonna do it NOW." They didn't bother to set up a real relationship or a romance, didn't even find a way to give them a little chemistry. Their relationship strikes me as just what it is, puppy love romance carried over childhood's shyness. But the writers are just sort of smooshing them together like they've always been this way, and it rubs me wrong. Like the picnic scene. That just wasn't in character for EITHER of them, except Mai's usual apathetic emo kid stuff. But Zuko? Picnicking? Randomly snogging? "I don't hate you too"? That was just... so.... completely out of the blue. Zuko could maybe be that boy, someday down the road. but it isn't who he is right now. The only thing so far that has made sense to me about this Maiko thing was in the comic, where he wasn't going to leave Ba Sing Se, so Azula tried fixing them up... but I still don't think that's why he agreed to go. Azula callously commented that she didn't even know if iroh would survive the trip, and THAT is what seemed to click the decision in Zuko's head, not quality time with his new girlfriend. But maybe this is all just me, because I would do it differently. *sigh* We'll see. I just hope the rest of the season doesn't continue to come off as amateur fanfiction.
Heheh, half of what inspires me to draw is music, so the nature of the Zutara (confrontation, quality time, sexy) depends quite a lot on what I'm listening to. I've been listening to a lot of music that move lately, you can see.

Here's the way I look at it, the blushing and jealousy are manifested whenever Katara feels Aang's attentions are being shared. Remember their first visit to Kyoshi? Katara has gotten used to being THE AVATAR'S 'closest' friend. Also, she's fought along side him and trained with him ... they have a tight bond. Not to mention how over protective she is of him, especially now that she almost lost him. It's cute. So maybe they threw Kataangers a bone ... why? Because for 2 years they have been watching Kataang in all it's innocent awkward splendor ... but they won't get to see it to fruition ... So they gave them a dance now so later when it's Zuko and Katara turn, they'll have something to cling to. At least that's what I'm thinking.
Yeah Katara showed those fire nation kids alright! ... maybe someday she will be their FireLady.
Maiko did seem a bit rushed ... and ooc for Zuko. Why was he such a dork on his date with Jin if he's such a lady's man with Mai? ... maybe it's easier to be relaxed around Mai? She expects less of him? Maybe he's to busy with her tongue down his throat to be a dork...who knows. I have to trust that the creators know what they are doing. There is a reason for Maiko which will all become clear in the coming weeks. There is something we're not seeing yet. Azula is as much a part of Maiko as Zuko or Mai. She's manipulates EVERYONE, what remains to be seen is what side Mai ends up on eventually. She kinda looks at her sideways when she walks away from the picnic ... what I can't tell definitively is whether she shares that glance with Azula or if she's plotting against her.
I can see Zuko doing all those mundane boyfriend things ... he is trying really hard to fit into this 'destiny' he had been chasing for so long. And as we can see from him crossing various lines, he'll do anything to keep it. But he's troubled. I guess I'm curious to see how Maiko plays out. ....and what they will do with poor Mai when Zutara happens.
In the end the blatant Kataang and Maiko are giving me hope for Zutara. We've seen how well they can write stories of character development and adventure, so I would imagine they can tell a beautiful epic love story. [Oma and Shu hinted at that.] So far, neither Kataang nor Maiko have reached that level. It makes me hopeful that Zutara will.
Music inspires me too! Mostly my Zutara playlist is love songs and most of those are tragic ... not too much dance ... which is probably why my stuff turns out so romantically dark. Let's face it, Zuko and Katara have a mountain of obstacles to overcome before they can be together. [kinda like Oma and Shu] But I believe when they do it will be EPIC!
Um, I can't wait for the next episodes!!! I want MORE!!!!!

LOL. Ah, steam babies, that never fails to make me chuckle.
And don't get me started on the shiptastic bad writing of The Headband. *rolls eyes* I sure hope Season three doesn't continue like this. The Painted Lady really better deliver.

I know...it's to rushed...to fast paced....to unbelievable....and too corny...the only characters packing a pnch for me right now are Sokka,Toph...and Iroh....and hell Iroh hasn't even spoken yet!!!

Yeah. Actually, the characters individually, when by themselves, are pretty good and doing their usual sort of thing. But when you throw ships into it, they dissolve into completely ludicrous fanbait. Zuko confronting Iroh and throwing a tantrum? Classic Zuko. Sad, but good character development. Zuko with Mai? "WTF was that!?" And so on. Such a shame.
