Thank you for your lovely and thoughtful comment!Β
I was thinking of making a little tutorial with a step by step of the process. I typically take wip during painting. Would you like seeing something like that?
Short version is I use the default 11px chalk brush that comes with photoshop - Β it's simply golden for blending. Also I always work on a canvas of at least 5000 px, this allows me to paint with bold strokes. Once the image is resized it looks much sharper and cleaner.Β
I think the blurriness comes from the fact that the brush has a soft edge. And when small ends up looking quite sharp - as in the hair. I knew something bothered me about this image, but I couldn't pinpoint it!
I'll be using some hard edged brushed from now on to maintain the same level of detail

No problem!Β
Yeah a tutorial would be great thanks, would love to see the progress :3
Ah ok I should hunt out the chalk brush then, keep forgetting about that one!
Yeah I do a similar resizing technique but I work at 3000px instead..its very handy.
Hmm..maybe you could just add some smaller strokes (same brush) then on different parts of the face? Like a few on the cheek, around the eyes, under the mouth.
I think if you use a hard one all over you'll lose the softness of the skin.Β
