yes I'm using them quite often, at the moment ! I like the mix Art DΓ©co/futuristic

I think I'm going to play with some of my shaders on it later. I used a mirrored floor on the Orion once, and it turned out pretty cool because of the ceiling.
now, if I could only figure out how to do lights so the cool.... structure leave shadows.

Silent Jimmy shall just frown at you, then punch a human, lol.
Yeah, that is one of the GIS sets. Definitely more sci-fi than you would probably use, but I love the stuff.

I did think of GIS when I saw this, but the whole image has such an illustrated quality to it that I thought it must have been a pre generated image. I've contemplated Cloud Nine many times. Dimension Theory has some great stuff. I really should stop skimping on HDMI/IBL goodies and bite the bullet the next time I imagine I have money to spend.

Cloud Nine is totally worth it. I use it extensively. Sometimes I hide the skydome and just use the lights. I do love those lights, can make a really nice scene straight out of the box with those, and they are so easy to tweak if you want something different.

I'm going to be stingy and wait for the DT's Reality bundle to go on sale. That way I will be able to convert the HDRs to TIFFs for use with Uberenvironment, while having higher quality images for Reality. On occassion ones does get to have their cake and eat it..

I really need to delve into some tutorials and learn lighting myself... it's just a matter of having less ideas that I need to work on "now now now" and taking the time for it, lol.

Nothing wrong with using IBL. It can be used with many other lighting techniques to cover its shortcomings.

and Photoshop, don't forget the ever popular PS, lol.

I find with IBL you don't really get any sort of strong specific lights, so it is easier to throw a spot light or distant light in if you need a sun or a bright light from a specific location. I almost always use PS to alter the lighting levels in some way - not skilled enough to simulate an actual light source with painting though, at least not to a level that is compatible with the type of images I'm rendering.

I use the uber lights a lot. I don't really understand them... are they an IBL? good idea for the spotlight for color coming from a direction! I don't know why I didn't think of that, I just try to mess with shadow settings and brightness (and no, it doesn't always work lol) love when I do too much and get that all black render.

Basically they are all just an image. .tiff for DAZ/Uberenvironment/3delight and .HDR for Lux. When you use a preset for uberenvironment all it does is apply the .tiff to uber's environment globe. It's all quite simple once you pull it apart.
