Hi, someone from ProjectComment here.
First of all, this is such a sweet send-off to a pet...it's hard to lose them, and sometimes even harder to remember them. I've considered trying to do a piece for one of my own, and if it wasn't too painful to do, I would encourage you to do more of these. :3
It's a very dreamlike image. All the white is blinding, almost painful to look at, but I think it works given the subject matter. Things can feel unclear and hazy, and too much, too bright, the feelings too strong, etc. and I think this captures that surreal sensation well. What I especially like is that the colors aren't muted – they're still quite saturated, just applied lightly, from what I can tell – and while grayscale and desaturated palettes can work really well for grief or depression in paintings, something like this feels more....celebratory almost? It makes it feel bittersweet, like there are echoes of the vibrant being that once was, which you might be able to see more of in your mind as the pain lessens with time. It's quite moving.
Honestly, any critique I would have comes down to style and intent, both of which are mostly or entirely subjective. Like, for all that I said about the dreamlike quality, I would actually like to have seen what the sky would look like if it had, maybe, some swirling gradient of colors instead of simple light rings around the stars in one color? Then again, I mostly work digitally – I understand that is a lot easier said than done in traditional work.
Either way, beautiful work. I hope making it has been able to help you. :3

That's gotta be true for all traditional artists in some capacity. We're all just supply hoarders. XD
Yeah. Couldn't agree more. :3

I’m very sorry for your pup - may he run on a clearer meadows from now on. This is a very beautiful memorial for him.
Anyhow let me share some thoughts of the artwork itself. As said earlier, as a memorial picture this is a lovely one. The image has this adorable dream like feel to it and it almost appears like an illustration for a children’s book or a fairytale. One immediately thinks of sky, night, dreams and even passing away when looking at this. You have some very nice details there and I adore your rough, sketchy line art.
The coloring could use some refinement though. I assume you’ve made a stylistic choice with leaving so much white around the line art, which is a neat idea, but also causes the picture to appear a tad unfinished. The dog looks fine, yet the rest of the image lacks the larger areas of color to emphasize shape and make the different parts stand out from one another. For instance, the sky could be solid even area of dark blue only having white little dots as stars - and the foreground would stand out much better. Same goes with some of details that kinda need more color so that they would be easier to spot among the cloud.
Overall this is a lovely illustration! Cute style and very interesting details.

I totally agree about the saturation.

Thanks.
Yeah nothing prepares you for such a lose. Dogs are the best example of unconditional love found in interspecies friendships.
Our little guy had been with us such a long time, but not nearly long enough.
Thanks I tried to ad our Shadows favorite things here which is why the pic might seem a bit odd lol.
