Description My friend,
My end,
My friend till the end,
Rest Swiftly,

I hadn't but the smallest of numbers, to hold to my heart in my life,
So when you my dearest End, left quickly and soundless, you left a rip in my heart,

Your eyes they were lanterns, brighter than the sun,
Your bones were of glass, your will stronger than sand,
But your heart was a well, which bubbles and spilled,
Deep well of my childhood dreams,

My friend till the end,
We lived though many troubles,
I didn't always lend myself to you like you deserved;
But when trouble boiled, and the Ice Queen and Beast rages war,
You where always there for us, in was no one else could have been,
So rest swiftly and comfortably, in the softest of quilts,

Tears turn to glass and fall on the grass, which you sunbathed across the dawn,
But now twilight has spoken and my heart has broken- I'll pick the splinters off the floor,

My friend,
Your end, I never wanted to come,
But if I have to say goodbye,
If I have to say goodbye,
I'll try,
                                                                    :thumb734126705:
                                                                 RIP Shadow-2010-2019

For those who don't know this is my dear pup Shadow who recently passed away. Picture isn't
here in description workingg so I have added a photo of him below in the comments. RIP sweet pumpkin head❤️.

Hi, someone from ProjectComment here.

First of all, this is such a sweet send-off to a pet...it's hard to lose them, and sometimes even harder to remember them. I've considered trying to do a piece for one of my own, and if it wasn't too painful to do, I would encourage you to do more of these. :3

It's a very dreamlike image. All the white is blinding, almost painful to look at, but I think it works given the subject matter. Things can feel unclear and hazy, and too much, too bright, the feelings too strong, etc. and I think this captures that surreal sensation well. What I especially like is that the colors aren't muted – they're still quite saturated, just applied lightly, from what I can tell – and while grayscale and desaturated palettes can work really well for grief or depression in paintings, something like this feels more....celebratory almost? It makes it feel bittersweet, like there are echoes of the vibrant being that once was, which you might be able to see more of in your mind as the pain lessens with time. It's quite moving.

Honestly, any critique I would have comes down to style and intent, both of which are mostly or entirely subjective. Like, for all that I said about the dreamlike quality, I would actually like to have seen what the sky would look like if it had, maybe, some swirling gradient of colors instead of simple light rings around the stars in one color? Then again, I mostly work digitally – I understand that is a lot easier said than done in traditional work.

Either way, beautiful work. I hope making it has been able to help you. :3

Hello Electric

Thanks for your detailed feedback. I really appreciate it

The colors of the original are just a tad darker and easier to see unfortunately the copier ate them 😅.

Dog's are great friends indeed. And if when we love them as they deserve losing them become no less heartbreaking than losing a human companion 💔.

Yeah, I'm having to build up all my office stuff one thing at a time. Hopefully one day I'll be more semi-professional lol

Of for sure. Cats love their people. Just slightly differently than dogs since they're not naturally pack animals.
I've met the most lovable tabbies in my time; esp the orange tabs for some reason.

I don't think the sting ever leaves. It just sorta becomes apart of us. This has been the first time I've lost anyone I loved, but that's the feeling I get (no matter the species, dog, cat, human). Either way, we carry a bit of our loved ones with us I think, in our memories and hearts.

Ha yeah. Like my sketchbooks. I have a bunch of nice ones I never use.

Yes it's exactly like that I think. Friendship and love becomes an investment over time the more we're around the creature/person of our affections the deeper and stronger the bonds become. I found out my Grandmother died a year and a half ago but couldn't cry because I never knew her. Where's I cried for two weeks straight when our Shadow past.
Regardless it's a beautiful thing, to love an animal or another person. It's really not different losing a cat or an uncle if you loved them

That's gotta be true for all traditional artists in some capacity. We're all just supply hoarders. XD

Yeah. Couldn't agree more. :3

I’m very sorry for your pup - may he run on a clearer meadows from now on. This is a very beautiful memorial for him.

Anyhow let me share some thoughts of the artwork itself. As said earlier, as a memorial picture this is a lovely one. The image has this adorable dream like feel to it and it almost appears like an illustration for a children’s book or a fairytale. One immediately thinks of sky, night, dreams and even passing away when looking at this. You have some very nice details there and I adore your rough, sketchy line art.

The coloring could use some refinement though. I assume you’ve made a stylistic choice with leaving so much white around the line art, which is a neat idea, but also causes the picture to appear a tad unfinished. The dog looks fine, yet the rest of the image lacks the larger areas of color to emphasize shape and make the different parts stand out from one another. For instance, the sky could be solid even area of dark blue only having white little dots as stars - and the foreground would stand out much better. Same goes with some of details that kinda need more color so that they would be easier to spot among the cloud.

Overall this is a lovely illustration! Cute style and very interesting details.

Aww. Sorry for your loss . I know how that feels like: About less than 5 years ago, one of my two puppies died from a sickness when my dad tried to save her, then the other one died a few months later after he grew into a dog (I don't know what caused his death). The first puppy's death was more devastating to me than the second dog's. I remember like it was just yesterday...

Very nice drawing, I absolutely love it.

Thanks.
Yeah nothing prepares you for such a lose. Dogs are the best example of unconditional love found in interspecies friendships.

Our little guy had been with us such a long time, but not nearly long enough.

Thanks I tried to ad our Shadows favorite things here which is why the pic might seem a bit odd lol.
