Description
It is common among the orcs to preserve their dead in barrows, but their reasons for this vary greatly. Some peoples do this to help the soul reach an afterlife in good health, but some in fact believe the body to be a tether to the mortal world, and usually strive to destroy it soon after death to free the soul, by burning the corpse, throwing it to the vultures or eating it. Still, barrow-burial, even with embalming, is known among these peoples, but used rather as a punishment for murderers, traitors or hated enemies, to deny them a passage to the beyond for centuries until time and decay take mercy on the entombed one.
It was one of these accursed barrows that Kelka, the First Lich, used to muster her first army. The bodies within were mostly too withered and broken to serve, but the trapped souls were in torment, and easily driven into a rage.
