Details:
Szigfried Zhur le Hakk is the commander of Ground Regiment IV-- one that specializes in conflicts on the planet's surface and avoiding going into space. Under his command it sees relative success and currently exists in a state of peacetime.
He and his regiment are stationed on one well-populated planet within the range browbirds occupy. With a high population of browbirds on this planet, it explains the need for military presence.
However, Szigfried's regiment hasn't always existed in the pristine condition he keeps it in.
In his past, he earned the title "Warlord" among lower ranks and common people for his swiftness and brutality at quashing conflicts; particularly budding revolutions. He hated nothing more than the disruption of peace through something that was (what he viewed at the time as) petty as civil unrest. He'd focused the pinnacle of his magical study into the creation and manipulation of lava-- turning the ground underfoot into searing, impassable terrain. It is not actively offensive at all times, but quite demoralizing in a way that simply burning down hideouts an encampments could not accomplish. This should not mean he has neglected the study of his two separate magic types as individual entities, and alone his stone and fire magic is just as destructive.
His weapon of choice on the battlefield is a plasma halberd. It is magically powered, though if the crystals powering it are drained, it sill has a metal blade and can be used as a fearsome weapon! It is fitted with pieces of rose quartz. Outside of heavy combat situations he has a sword he keeps with him, that is fitted with star sapphires like the broaches on his out of combat uniform.
As a career soldier, Szigfried is trained in many styles of combat, not just limited to creative use of his magical aspects, but to many styles of weapons and hand-to-hand combat as well. It often seems like an obvious weakness that he favors his right hand over his left due to the arrows in his left shoulder, one may be surprised to find that if the situation truly demands it, he can-- and will-- use both arms in a devastating combo. It is a weak point, but not as dire as one may be led to believe at first glance. He is single-mindedly determined and will grit his teeth and bear the pain of exacerbating the injury if he must.
His last 'conquest' is where he earned the arrows that he leaves embedded in his shoulder. After returning, he stopped with crushing insurrections underfoot. The story goes that he managed to get almost the entirety of his men killed through a lack of foresight gained from a sense of superiority over his targets. Death and killing changes as a concept when the light leaves the eyes of people whose names you knew, whose dreams you knew, when those people trusted your command to put their lives on the line.
He keeps the arrows as a symbol of his shame.
The decoration of his arrows he handles in the same way one would pay respects at a grave. It is much like carrying the graves of his men on his back for the rest of time.
These days this is not common knowledge-- recruits think he keeps them to intimidate them. Many doubt they are real at all.
It's questionable if peacetime is because there are truly no conflicts, or if he simply erased them.
[Left purposefully vague in places. A lack of close confidents means there is very little info that people below him in rank know for sure. He's a bit of a mystery with a dark past!]
Personality:
Szigfried, at first glance, is a drowsy and soft spoken browbird with a large build. A gentle giant. While his droopy eyes and sleepy manner of speech may disarm an unknowing person, he should not be taken lightly.
Most times, he is stern but quiet-- when disappointed his tone takes on something that reminds many of "That time my father was truly disappointed in me. I feel like I really let him down." However, the fire that compelled him to be such a fierce opponent of chaos still burns in him, and when truly angered he is chilling. On the battlefield his voice and command are unwavering, and he is determined and single-minded to the end goal of victory.
He strongly questions whether everything he did in the past was good of him. He killed and ruined more lives than just the men he lost in his biggest mistake. He tells himself constantly that he must have been justified at some point, and thus refuses to step down as a commander, holding strong to the military.
He has taken to making attempts at being good to his men, sometimes fatherly but awkward. Most who serve under him find him endearing if they havent had reason to anger him, but dont let this cause doubt of his competancy, for he is still a well-respected leader despite his most well-known failure. His teaching skills, sometimes, can seem a bit lacking. He is better at giving orders rather than explaining the steps he took to get there.
Szig's relationships are strained at first but close when he forms them. Due to his rolling internal conflicts and history as a military man, he is bad at communicating with others on a personal level, unsure if he wants to keep them at arm's length to avoid hurting himself (or them)(also out of habit of avoiding being too close to people he could very well send to their deaths), and unsure how to become close when he wants to make the plunge. He hates to appear weak or vulnerable, and opening yourself up to others requires this.
He is fierce but greatly apologetic of what he's done. At his current point in his life, he could be tipped in one of two ways.
--It would not be difficult to steer him back onto his old path with some pretty words of encouragement. He is a natural commander and conqueror, and anyone who wishes to see war might be able to manipulate him.
--The harder road would be helping him make amends and identify the causes of the rebellion he opposed and find less militarized ways of handling them. Being a career soldier, all he seems to know is command and solving conflict through militarizarion, he does not really know any other way.

Drug dependency mentions below! Skip to "Inspo" section if that makes you uncomfy!
=====================
Leaving two arrows permanently embedded in your shoulder is not a comfortable endeavor. Szigfried, as a result, is dependent on painkillers, since he cannot always be visitng a healer. Without them he suffers not just negative symptoms from pain, but also negative withdrawal symptoms from the various medicines he's come to rely on for daily use. Negative symptoms can include: increased sensation of pain, nausea, increased irritability, mood swings, and insomnia.
These are not necessarily symptoms from the medication itself, but from his dependency on their effects.
