A snort escaped through Nightkit’s nose as he shifted his vice jaw grip on Ringkit’s tail. Beside Nightkit sat Chasingkit with an eager expression like usual when the trio was up to no good.

“Hey, if you catch a rat down there, lemme try a bite! I never tried one! Heard it tasted good! Yummy as shrews! Are they?” Tilting his head at a small angle, Chasingkit innocently inquired Nightkit.

Nightkit shot a look of disbelief towards Chasingkit, “Mmphwhell, hewmp amph eeii swupposeth two knwowh!?” Abruptly, his head jerked forwards as Ringkit attempted to lash out a paw to grab on one of preys burrowing in the tunnels.

Blinking, Chasingkit let his mouth open in a gape. “You’re okay? Did he get a rat!? I bet it’s large because the jerk was huge! It’s so much like how Pebbleclanners fish for fish, but with a cat for bait!”

”Jwussh shwush shup!”Muscles taught, Nightkit shifted farther backwards, easing the tension on his neck to his front paws before pausing momentarily, the effort being exhausting.

“Hey, oh hey! I know! Ringkit can three rats into his mouth and carry them up here! Or is his mouth too small?”

An audible sigh rose up from the crack on the rotten floorboards.

”Chasingkit… my mouth isn’t that large and I don’t think I can even fit one of those enormous rats… and uh… they look like they want to eat me… I really need to get out now…”

Nightkit braced his legs before giving a great heave upwards, knocking some dirt loose from the edges of the hole.

”HEY! CAREFUL! There’s dirt in my eyes!”

“Mwwhwahtewer…” Despite Ringkit’s weight and Nightkit’s lean frame, Nightkit was still able to bring him bit by bit out of the hole.

Finally, Ringkit’s dark head emerged from the hole.

Gasping, Nightkit collapsed onto Ringkit, eliciting an “oomph” from the dark tabby.

”I’m never doing that again…” Ringkit managed to mutter out, his hoarse inhales evening out into small wheezes.

“Did you get any rat!? It’s gonna be a great addition to the foodpile! I think it’s gonna be really tasty! I hope we can get a bite of it before it’s added to the pile and eaten by other kits! Mom’s gonna be so proud!” By the time the nonsensical blathering petered off, Chasingkit had already worked himself up into an excited frenzy.

Sliding his luminous eyes to Ringkit, Nightkit placed a paw firmly over his eyes.

“Yeah. We got a rat. It’s just invisible…”
