Description Randomly at about 10PM tonight I decided that I wanted to paint. It's been a while since I've been in anywhere near an artistic mood, so I ran downstairs, got out all my crap, and proceeded to paint something without linework. All of the initial work was pretty much splattering and stuff like that, but eventually it started to (subconsciously?) take the shape of a skull.
I went with it.
Once I determined that I had painted enough, I went in and did some linework afterward. Even after majorly screwing up on the skull's teeth and chin, I think I really like the end result. Since I didn't use any india ink, I got a really colorful end product that doesn't look like something I'd do at all. And all that negative space- wtf? What's come over me?

...as for meaning, I'd be really interested in what you guys have to say about it. But for once, I'm pretty sure what was on my mind while I was painting this had a pretty profound effect on the pic's overall turnout. It's more of an embodiment of my mood than an overall message, like most of my work.

I feel like it's highly unlikely that this piece/the theme of it is still on your mind. Just saying.

Wow, thanks!
More thanks for the watch, lol.
I appreciate it. :3

As for the print thing... I pretty much refuse to participate in the dA print program. They kinda shaft you and most of the money paid goes to the site, unless you buy a print account in which case it's only half. Still practically pennies.
If you want a print though, I'd be willing to ship one to you!
Theirs, I'm sure, are better quality, but I have connections with two printing stores in my area and the quality can get damned close. Also, I don't overcharge like they do... and I'm going to stop before I go into a rant about how dA is getting money-hungry with the subscription statuses, ads, ad ads, etc. >.>;

I would love to have one sent <3

And I kind of noticed that as well. . *Subscriptionless Ftw*
Just let me know the dimensions and the price ranges ^ 3^;

I usually like to find frames for them before I order so they have a home in a home so to speak xD.

inkloose In reply to Zinagaro [2010-02-04 07:46:18 +0000 UTC]

Well awesome!
If there's a frame you have in mind for this, I can get it printed (and even matted) for that particular frame for you. Depending on the size and mat (if you want that), the price will change. The original painting is 9"x12", so if you go too much bigger than that, there's gonna be some quality loss. I wouldn't push over 18"x24", which might be difficult to ship anyway. You live in the continental US, right?
So um... any size in mind? XD
I'm thinking that $10-$20 (before shipping) for a good print is reasonable, depending on the size. You choose matte, glossy, or textured. Depending on the size, prices and textures will probably change. In that case, I'll let you know what's up. :]
Thanks for the interest! This is exciting :3

wow awesome. I like how you use watercolors in that splattery way and it doesn't even look tacky like it usually ends up looking. So good job! : D you have a great style and your lines <33 nomnom

This is so cool! *_* It's like a rainbow vomited on it! .... Okay, that sounded alot cooler in my head. 8D;

But your colors are so cool and work well together, I think as long as you can tell it's a skull, then your allowed some artistic licensee especially when you get caught up in those moods when reference is the last thing on your mind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inkloose In reply to ADRAWER4EVER [2009-05-28 21:00:01 +0000 UTC]

Ekekeke! Rainbow vomit sounds amazing~
Makes me think of drunk clowns... or unicorns...
*shrugs*

Lol, good point. I should totally make an artistic license... and carry it around in my wallet or something. Then when people complain about representational accuracy, I can pull it out and point to it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ADRAWER4EVER In reply to inkloose [2009-06-01 04:39:51 +0000 UTC]

Maybe unicorns' bleed rainbows.

At Animazement last weekend, I saw someone with a rather official looking "Artistic license"! I got a great laugh out of it; I was envious for one of my own as well.

Every true artist should be able to obtain an Artistic License!
There could even be a points system for irresponsible artists or special status' for art police!

inkloose In reply to ADRAWER4EVER [2009-06-01 06:23:14 +0000 UTC]

Oh, nice! Sounds like a pretty awesome system! Maybe those law nerds can do something about all the legal implifications... us art nerds are too lazy for that. D:

In the meantime... I'll be working on a pimp-fresh artistic license. Ohyes.

Paimonerra [2009-05-25 16:55:23 +0000 UTC]

LIKE IT. o____O

Well, the colors look fantastic, and even if you screwed up on the skull, it doesn't matter because it looks cool the way it is (gives it a unique-ness).
Also the cross-hatching looks amazing (and seriously that shit is fucking fun, ain't it?).

As for meaning, errrrr, I just woke up, but the title says it all, yeah? I know you've said before how sometimes you're bad with words, so I figure it represents the inability to find anything to say, ah, I guess around some certain person? And is the key's only relevance to the title? Because it seems symbolic or whatever, too. THE KEY TO YOUR HEART.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inkloose In reply to Paimonerra [2009-05-25 18:00:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'm able to live with this skull in all its horrid glory.
Yup! Cross-hatching is my preferred shading method. I loves it so much.

You're very close with the meaning! Although... how cheesy do you think I am?!?!? The key to my heart? Bah. It's actually representing the act of locking instead of opening up. Everything else is pretty much what was on my mind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paimonerra In reply to inkloose [2009-05-26 01:17:17 +0000 UTC]

Wow! I suck at meanings. The 'key to your heart' was a joke if you didn't get that...? Are you playin' with me, cuz if you are, I just did not get that through the internet.
But yeah, alright, that's a cool meaning. I wasn't sure about it.

That's pretty interesting. 8D
I think you did a fine job on the teeth, by the way. They don't look weird to me. xD

And uh, well...I can't pick out any sort of meaning because I suck at that kind of thing. 8D;;
(Seriously, unless the meaning of a song--for example--is BRUTALLY obvious, it takes me listening to it hundreds of times over to FINALLY catch the meaning...like just a few nights ago as I was DDRing I caught on to what Video Killed the Radio Star is talking about. 8D *is slow sometimes* Poetry takes me ages too...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inkloose In reply to ReleveeMySweet [2009-05-11 22:41:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
I did severely get the scale of the teeth wrong (they're too tiny!) and the jaw is seriously too big and at an awkward angle. But... whatever. This isn't supposed to be a masterpiece at all.

Lol, Video Killed the Radio Star. Nice one. XD;
It takes me a while to figure out song meanings too, but poetry is a snap for me. (Lol, poetry pun!)
...
Yeah, but don't worry about it. I'm just glad you commented. I posted what my motives behind this picture were up in the comments somewhere, so it's out there. I'm really less concerned about you guessing what my motives are than you telling me your own thoughts about it are. That's what I think art is for. :3

Anyway, thanks!
I've gotta get around to commenting on some of your newer stuff.

ReleveeMySweet In reply to inkloose [2009-05-12 02:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh...well, apparently it wasn't too noticeable to me. xD;;

Indeed. xD;
Hahah, nice.

I went and read it after you said that. And it makes good sense. 8D
I wish I could draw stuff like that; I mean things that kind of embody my current mood, and have certain symbols for people to decipher. I've never been good at that though. I just draw people. xD;;

You're welcome!
And it's okay; I haven't kept up with your art very well myself. I started to comment some stuff recently, but I was either called to go do something, or my computer froze...nonetheless, apparently I didn't get to comment. >_>'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

inkloose In reply to ReleveeMySweet [2009-05-12 03:47:20 +0000 UTC]

Aww! Whether you know it or not, what you draw will portray a part of you. You don't have to try. I've found that I'm more of a surrealist... so the more meaning I try attach to a piece, the more I get confused and end up not liking the piece as much. There's more meaning there when I let my mind wander. It doesn't make much sense when I think about it, but it tends to hold true for most of the work I do.
...I've ranted for long enough, lol. XD;
