That's exactly what happened to my boyfriend at his brother's wedding. He caught it without really wanting to, so now his mother has been bothering us with marriage ever since.

Catching it doesn't mean anything though, regardless of what they'd make you believe. At my friend's wedding two years back, this one guy got it. Well, fast forward and half the guys in the gang are married and he still isn't.

I have seen grooms "pull out" panties instead of the garter as a joke - it's easy to palm them in because those dresses usually have so many ridiculous petticoats underneath, they might as well be some kind of Mary Poppins bag. But that's probably the source of your confusion.
