DIGIMON, DIGITAL MONSTERS!
DIGIMON ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

This song is ridiculously motivational for me. Srsly.

During my childhood, there were three things I obsessed over:
1. Pokemon
2. Digimon
3. Dinosaurs

GREYMON here falls into two of those categories. It's no wonder I loved him so much when I was younger. :b

I wasn't planning on taking a detour through my childhood when I started to sketch this out. What actually happened went along the lines of seeing an artist's Digimon OC, going, "Hey, I remember that show! I remember I used to love Greymon!"

That's when the urge to draw him came to me. Started out as a sketch, ended up something more. Something waaay more.

I can't believe how utterly proud I am of this piece. The last time I've felt this accomplished was back when I drew Cuttle and went above and beyond even my own expectations. Both times, I felt strangely inspired to finish the pieces.

I've never drawn a dinosaur before, despite my obsession-mellowed-down-to-affinity for prehistoric creatures, so I'm quite happy with the result. I'm expanding my species variety!
(unfortunately, dinosaur characters are rare...)

I'm also pleased with the lineless-ness of this piece. The textured tongue and shining eye are my favourites of this, as well as the teeth! c;

There are many, many layers of shading and highlights on this piece. I tried my hardest to make Greymon's facial features stand out, and added my own little skull-dent-thing that is common to dinosaurs. :b

I also tried to make his markings more natural, as opposed to being entirely straight.

And the background! Believe it or not, there are absolutely no fancy textures pasted onto this thing. Everything is hand-painted except the crackly-texture in the background. That, I owe to Photoshop Elements and its... craquelure texture. c:
And lots and lots of layer modes to get that bright, shiny effect. ;b

FINALLY. This was painted at 100%. Not bad, huh? I didn't resize a thing this time, and I liked that. It made this nice and simple to work on. I should do that more often. o;

In any case, I hope you find some amount of skill and technique in this, or if not, that it pulls a little at your childhood heartstrings. :b
