*Nightshade*
- The idea of 'nightshade' came up as I played the video game with the same title and since then, in my mind the word 'nightshade' is always related to a femme fatale.
- In fact, 'nightshade' is a family of flowers. A few of them are edible, but most have deadly toxics.
- The violet flowers in the pic are based on the Deadly Nightshades, belonging to the Nightshade family.
- However, the composition of the pic came out when I separated the word into 'night' and 'shade(s)', and I understand them as 'shades in the night' (lame ^^).

The simple composition has told you that this is not a serious work of mine. Actually I just intended to compose a simple piece for a deviantID (in which my profile will be written on the left). However, things have changed since I browsed the folders containing some old works of a favourite 2D artist mine, which have given me ideas and I decided to apply them soon in this pic. Now it's turned out too awful to be a deviantID. Nevertheless, I did have a fun time playing around with such kind of palette/skintone .

All my works, including this pic, have hidden meanings, but I don't often describe them cuz they're too long. So I'll consider myself successful if my works really give the viewers certain feelings, even just a little bit. If not, I fail.

For some reason I thought of the artist Frida Kahlo when I was looking at this piece.

You're the second person who feels it. I'm actually a bit surprised, as I know Frida's works and I don't think my works look like hers that much.
However thanks for the comment .

Please, do not misunderstand me, I did not mean to imply that your work (as a whole) looks like Frida's work. What I meant to convey to you was, that I thought of one of her pieces (which displayed mutilation) when I first saw this particular deviation.

The rest of your work does not reflect in any way to this exceptional artist's work.

And you're welcome.

I see .
Actually I hadn't known of Frida Kahlo until the first commentator before you told me that this pic of mine reminded her of Kahlo's works. And now you've come as the second commentator who felt the same thing. That has just surprised me more. With this pic, I just want to do something between surrealism and fantasy, with my Asian anime-ish style, so it's hard to believe to me when people are reminded of works by Kahlo, who is a Latin-American artist.

Very balanced composition!
Me likes the color palette!
Only the boob that is under the flowers needs some tweaks cause it looks a bit flat and wider than the other (some shadows on the sides of it will do the job) . Watch for the blood drops on the boob, they need some sort of curve to make the "round effect"

*continues to admire

Thank you very much for your kind critiques. I didn't really work seriously on this pic. But it's true that I always fail to perform anatomy parts. And the blood was a real pain in the ass .

Btw, I admire you more .

This is creepy indeed, but yet a great picture. Asides from what Coty told you, I'd suggest to add more shadows to make more contrast and volume. Great artwork!

Thank you very much Coty !!! , and your thoughts about the piece have really amazed me, as they're not only touching but also beyond all the meanings I've arranged (To tell you the truth, I can't even understand the demon face on her abdomen. I put it there just to add more demonic atmospheres to the scene, and because it-can-be-placed-there ^^. The way you understand it is simply great ).
I agree the upper arm may be a little long, but another reason is that I love long limbs ^^.

I think it is a very interesting piece, as I've told you before it reminds me of Kahlo's work in subject. The self inflicted wounds underlying self rejection, the liberation of the soul through the possible rejection of her femeneity (she's harming her womb), the destruction idea reinforced by the belladonna flowers... but still holding certain paradoxical beauty all together.

Her arm looks a little too long for her body, and that is my only criticism. I like the composition, it is not complex but it is effective, the locks of hair guide your eye around the canvas and bring my eyes over and over to the butterfly, focusing on the beauty of the liberation of the soul and away from the gore of the wounds.
