Well B5 never tried to be Star Trek... quite the opposite as DS9 was a concept stolen from a pitch JMS made to ParamountΒ

I watched a bit Orville lately. Definitelly better than Discovery. they at least try to capture the old stand alone episode concept instead of mirroring those modern series and their "everyone is somewhat evil" characters. But sadly, the Orvill can't decide if it's comedy or a realSci Fiseries. Plus, the main actor isn't really an actor.

I've tried, not successfully, to write fan fiction about M'ress.Β I get the impression she hates wearing shoes, especially ones designed by non-Cait who don't "get" her digitigrade stance.Β Except when it's necessary to protect her toes.Β I had some of her off-duty clothing as being little more than an elaborate long loincloth with clan-specific decoration, and occasionally something hanging around her shoulders--the Cait don't have much of a nudity concept on their semi-tropical world.Β She'd occasionally wear Human-styled clothing if the design appealed to her.Β It's a challenge to design an alien who superficially resembles a Terrestrial species.
Mixed feelings about 'Orville', but it's gotten better in spite of the occasionally outrageous behavior of many of the characters.Β Even though that's probably more realistic writing.Β Looking forward to new episodes.Β I don't see this program as being in competition with any others, more as complementary.Β
One thing that bugs me is the use of automatic weapons that can't seem to hit their targets, even exposed in plain view.Β

I'm loving this.Β Great crossover.Β I haven't seen Star Trek Discovery (no interest in paying for one show) but I am a HUGE fan of The Orville and would love to see a catgirl on that show.Β

As a life-long Trek fan, I like The Orville better. It does feel more like TOS with TNG tech. I'm still iffy on Discovery. The third ep was better than the first two but we'll see how it goes.

well, there is one clearly better then the other imho. Orville engaged me more in the first 15 minutes then Discovery did in a whole hour. Discovery wants me to pay to watch it, but Orville is the one I'd have been willing to pay for yet gives it to me for free. Orville feels like TOS again, but if they'd made it now rather then the 60's. Discovery felt...tired and depressing. I'm not sure if the Orville will succeed, but I sure as hell hope it will. Β

No, thereβs one show on TV that trying to be Trek and itβs doing a decent job. Β The other isnβt even on TV, except for half of the two-part pilot.

Great Job! Not enough Caitains in Star Trek
I have been getting into Orville lately too. I like some of the humor (I used to watch family guy a long time agoΒ but I began watching other programs). So far it seems to be good. I agree that there are rough edges but I hope it gets better.

I love The Orville.Β It definitely tops Voyager and is leagues above Enterprise.Β I'm actually surprised since while Seth uses Trek jokes all the times on his cartoons, the guy really does get Trek but manages to keep the thing from feeling like a shameless rip-off.

Orville I've enjoyed. It's basically TNG with jokes. Outside of anything else I think they came up a good uniform design, and you did it well.
