What happened to The Master exactly? He kind of just became like this all of a sudden in Deadly Assassin? How much i understood he stayed in his last life for so long his body already started to rot and he just wouldn't let go till he found a way to extend his life?

In real life actor, Roger Delgado, died in a mountain accident after Frontier in Space was filmed. The character returned as the decaying corpse under the logic og having used up all his regenerations and now desperately clinging to lifeΒ

Yes i know about his tragic death, so yes that's what i basically said. It was just a creative choice and it makes sense. It just strange how Master pooped out all his lives so fast.

Yes. In one respect they wasted the character... but as the original plan was to have Pertwee and the Master come to a final battle like Holmes and Moriarty they had no future plans to bring the Master back in the future beyond the 3rd Doctor's time

Nobody topped Roger Delgado. Now Master/Missy is all like "ha ha look at me i'm insane and i do random evil shit i'm so lit" While Delgado was straight and focused and serious with everything he did, he didn't let his insanity take a better of him. He was truly menacing and even understanding at times. As he used to say "People were loving to hate me".
