Description A sketch from last night while I was giving my eyes a break from the computer. I break from art by drawing. x) I threw some color over it today because I wanted to see how it would look and I ended up liking it. My not so sweet baby William looking kinda formal for a portrait.

Gorgeous work, the soft wash of colour makes it look like an old photograph, and my eyes are really drawn to his face with this one

Thaaaank you.
LOL. Oh yeah. The Christmas bow-tie is the best, but I am sure he would eat them all just so he never has to wear them again. Not to mention his poor halo is probably quite bent by now... x)

I already told you I think my favorite part is the way the wings kind of blend into darkness and make it almost seem like there's something malignant there, just waiting. x) I also like the fact that it looks kind of an old-timey portrait.

Thaaank you! That definitely was the intended idea with his wings, especially since he's evil anyways. x) Or at least pretty darn...not nice... lol YES! That was totally what I was aiming for (once I decided to make him have shading and make the "frame" round). LOL. I'm glad you picked up on that!

Thank you so much! You should! It's really easy and it always looks so cool to me. I don't do it enough, though. ^-^'

Idk how I'd be with the blending like you did, though. x'D I love sketching and lining, but even digitally, coloring is my weak point, lol. Definitely want to work on it. cc:

LOL. It's pretty hard to mess up. It's just a few overlay layers with soft brushes and low opacities. You should make coloring your subject to study this year!

It's the color blending that gets me. xD Because there can be so many hues on things like skin and hair, especially depending on the surrounding lights. Light source is also a weak point. xD But I definitely will! I actually did color something up something with colored pencils and it was fun. cc: Will have to do it again. But there wasn't a definite light source still, LOL.

Awwww. It's not too bad! Just gotta keep practicing! There are a lot of hues but you can pretty much break it down if you don't want to get into hyper-realism. lol. See! Colored pencils are fun! And light sources aren't really that hard to grasp. If you need references, you can always use a little figure and throw some light on it to see how it acts. Study the way the light acts. I'm sure there's also some good tutorials on youtube you could watch. You'll get it!

I have lots of references saved, but I'll have to search for more light source ones. c: Thanks a bunch.

I am in love with this. I love the way you made him look - the style, those wings...so fluffy. This is gorgeous.

Thank you so much! I definitely draw him more like this in my sketchbook, although I still like to draw him with a more puppyish look sometimes too. But I really like the way he looks all growed up. ^_^' His brother needs a portrait too! And his sister. Family portraits!
