This is so... exquisitly neat!
It looks 3-D, and so colorful. What a neat idea. I personally think the frame goes quite nicely with it. Must

that is an awesome concept... i've never seen anything like it before. i like things that are unique, especially when its something new and impressive. i thought this was just another photo manip when i saw the thumb, but when i read your description i was blown away. i really don't like the frame however. one thing you might try is taking the photo, and making a border by darkening 20 or so pixels of the edges with a white line or something. or taking the edges and making them black and white. just a thought... but still

thanks , one was one of the first photos i submitted to DA and my seemingly most popular. I did a similar photo to this when my dad first got his G5 but with the rainbow concentrated on the BG a bit more and it has normal border (in my gallery somewhere). But people seem to prefer this one. And thanks i might try a darkened part of the image as a border on a future submission

Those colours! what a great idea/accident hehe the frame makes me think im looking into a mirror and the flowers r the reflection!

That's a cool effect. You should try it on other things. It works well here because the roses catch different parts of it so well.
I might try this myself, if you don't mind.
I think the frame is a bit much. I suggest giving it a small white border of about 20 pixels and then on a thick black background.

thanks and id enjoy seeing someone else try it.I have been unable to think of anything else that wold benefit from this effect. I took a similar one last week but with a better camera and well its alittle bit different and has a normal looking frame i'll submit it this week. btw use a blank cd-r they seem to give off alot more colour

what an awesome idea. any plans to use this cd-rainbow technique in future photos? i wondered about the frame at first but the more i look at it the more i think it works. im not sure why, maybe a sort of surreal oversaturated thing umm i'll shut up now. but it works!

lol thanks i have since dragged my tripod out into the garden in the middle of the night with my cd ,but those turned out terrible . The more i understand what kind of object this rainbow works best with, the more i realise the dead rose was the best choice (atleast that i can think of for now) i will use it again im just not sure when or on what

thank you yes its very very dead. atleast 6 years old dead. I had actually decided to throw it out when i moved recently but for some reason i kept it. Maybe this was one of those reasons

i found your piece thru :intoxik8: and i can see why he liked it so much, this is an interesting piece with some wonderful depth cues and great results of experimenting with what techniques that you employed. im gonna be honest about the frame, and it IS meant as a compliment... it could so easily be seen as cheapening an image but i gotta be honest... it works really well, it gives the image a very 'everyday' appearance that adds to the deceptively content-rich picture.

well done! be proud!

peace

and when you do, know we will all be silently looking out at you from within the lithe stems and subdued flowers... you'll never be alone again.

sure you still want to print it out and hang it???!!!

That is a very creative picture, the rainbow effect is done very effectively. Heh, the only thing that got me was the frame, I don't know if it cut the picture off, or the picture was kinda cut off to begin with, but to tell you the truth: It still doesn't take away from the overall creativeness/greatness of the photo. Great work.

Thank you the image was cropped to cut out a bit of my curtain in my bedroom . The frame was put on the outside of that crop, And those little flowers were going everywhere so i didnt really know how to crop it without making it look like somethings been taken away. Though it gives the impression that if you stuck your head in there you might see the rest (well for me anyway) .. I had the the photo in PSP8 i felt it needed a frame or border , i wasnt %100 happy with the gold frame but it definitly looked better than with none. I cant complain i have enjoyed hearing peoples opinions on it

Wow, that is such an excellent effect! Very creative. I wasn't too sure what I thought about the frame when I first looked, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. I think it fits very well with the colors and gives it a nice effect.

Great experimentation and it came out so well, one of the best flower photos I've seen for a long time and the frame gives it something and is quite different, very nicely done

Thanks ! i probably could have done this in an image program but it makes me happier inside knowing it came straight of the card. I took atleast 20 images of this and picked this one though the rest were also very pretty. A good advantage of the Digital Camera. (isnt going to mention all the disadvantages)

primowalker In reply to inty [2003-11-19 12:46:32 +0000 UTC]

It's a fantastic piece! Even more impressive considering all the work you put into it. I know what you mean about digital camera's. I got one too (well, it'd getting fixed. In fact, so is my 35mm!). I think the best situation is to carry a good 35mm camera and a digital with you when you go to take pictures. It gives you more flexability.

thank you your comments are much appreciated! i had a blast with this i was actually excited to get it cropped and finished. The colours are 'as is' and needed no tweaking. I showed my brother and father and they both thought it was manipulated

I think it's great. The colors are perfect. I like it when they come out of the camera and don't need a thing. My penny shot was that way... untouched.

Thanks for the comments everyone im still really happy with this one. And a bit of controversy over the frame is allways a good thing too. It definitly looks better with the frame than without it. But.. its also a bit corny so i still don't know. lets just say if i ever print it out and put it on my wall i'll put it in t frame like that
