Let's start 2016 with some creepy, I guess.I loved a lot of stuff from the Siege of the Crystal Empire comic arc, one of them has to be the design of the umbrums, the shadow ponies. They have to be one of the creepiest (at the same time coolest looking) things I saw in any kind of media. So, as I have a kind of liking to that kinda stuff, I had drew some.

I don't think we ever get a backstory for the Umbrum, do we? Here's a Tolkien-inspired backstory: What if the Umbrum were ponies? They are, after all, sometimes refered to as Shadow ponies, and still carry the vague shape of a more horse-like pony, like the Saddle-Arabian emissaries, so what if they are ponies that got lost in the shadows, maybe in some kind of primordial darkness before the First Sunrise? I dunno, it's a fun thought

That particular comic hasn't been released in book form yet, so I'm not familiar with the reference yet. However, that is one badass piece!

VERY NICE!! I love the Umbrum not only because of their design, but at how smart and evil they were in Siege( I love Siege probably a lot more than others). I do hope we see more of them, Sombra, and Radiant Hope (not all at once) in another story Arc someday.

my god, I got all 4 comics to do with King Sombra recently reading this, and well, when I saw the lil cuties like Breezie Shadow-beings turn into that, I was honestly shocked as I read on. MLP is not for young kids like it should be, least not in comic form anyway xD He he, not even the show in places is suitable for kids, cuz lil bits of that shocked me, it's gunna terrify kids! xD I just love how MLP is so easily appealing to older people, why I like it. This pic is just sooo damn cool! I thought bout drawing them sometime since reading comic, but dunno if I will... xD

I was really impressed with how they had a certain, very clear cut style for the rest of the comic, and yet the umbrum looked like they took crayons to draw them. That really helped, giving them a vague/uneven edge compared to everything around them.
This looks really cool too, really captured their intent.
