Description Edit: Added a (I think) better picture

I began this project as a excersize in asymetrical artwork....It makes me uncomfortable lol. I also love to do very textural and non precise bead embroidery....and so that part was a joy for me! I used colors that reminded me of the ocean and the icy waters of the arctic. I'm kind of sad to see this one done! I think I'm going to do another (smaller) piece

Includes walrus ivory cab (carved and cut by me!), turq cabs, pearls, Kyanite, amazonite, and tons of glass!

Whoa.  Holy beadwork... This is beautiful, and as a sales assosiate at a gallery for handmade peices, I wish we had more intricate pieces like this.

I want one of these but will have to save up, unless you would like to make a trade. My mother's mother and grandmother came from St Michael, but I was raised in SE Alaska, and now that I am older and have never been in the NW Alaska where the Ancestors came from, I find myself starving for tokens of my lost culture ...

I really love the colors/frosty look of this. Is it very heavy?

Sedna... was she the lady who's hands turned into seals and the like? Sort of a water goddess?

Seems I need to brush up on my mythology >.<'

InupiaqScrybe In reply to jadestonethedragon [2009-12-16 21:43:04 +0000 UTC]

It's not as heavy as it looks. The lady who bought it says she can wear it all day with no problems...or back problems..lol

Your correct about sedna! she shows up with various names all throughout the arctic cultures...
