Description Thought Mewtwo's new Mega form was kind of interesting, so I wanted to try and sculpt it from the one piece of concept art they released.

My tumblr to reblog from: invertx.tumblr

Sculpted/painted in ZBrush, rendered in Maya with mentalray.

That's who this is XD, there just isn't an official name for him yet, logically it seems he is either an alternate form of Mewtwo, or an evolution, as there is a video showing Mewtwo transform into him. So I wouldn't call it Mewthree, since it's not a new creation like Mewtwo was.

Very cool. I wonder what they'll name this new alternate form, and how Mewtwo aquires it and why.

Invertex-Art In reply to MidnightFire1222 [2013-04-22 06:36:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it should be interesting. I just call it Mewthree for now, as most people seem to be too haha. Makes sense. I'm sort of believing the theory that since Mewtwo is a clone of Mew, perhaps he has discovered the Transform ability that only Ditto and Mew possess, and uses it to transform into something stronger.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Invertex-Art In reply to Amphibnia [2013-04-21 18:02:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know if you noticed but it's sculpted digitally! So smoothing the sculpt is a bit easier hehe . But the basic principles still apply to regular sculpting as well, you have to work with your forms progressively, don't be getting lost in details until you have a nice general silhouette to the model's shape from various angles, then progressively add your more detailed forms, going finer and finer until it looks good.

Thanks! And as far as I know, we still don't know if it's a form or an evolution. We got a video preview of Mewtwo transforming into this, but it's still not clear why that was. So we'll just have to wait and see I guess!

Thank ya, thank ya!

Well, I had a good model down that was similar to this within about 3 hours, but I spent a couple hours trying out different concepts for fingers, toes, legs and face shape, since the concept drawing's proportions weren't translating well to a semi-realistic sculpt (especially the way those eyes and toes work in the drawing...). Then roughly 5 or 6 hours playing with lighting and material networks in Maya to get the look I wanted and liked. That's including lots and lots of test rendering to tweak things, where I'd go off and do something else for a few minutes haha.

Hey Mitch wow man, i gotta say that you are passionate about your work it speaks for itself but seriously I do appreciate it that you took some time to reply and share a bit of how what goes into making stuff like that I wanted to take some classes where I was studying web design on Cgi graphics using Maya but since i love web design and I'm still doing this just don't have the time for it but i'd love to play around with maya .. wat would u recommend if i wanted to get the program what computer do u use for this.. and by the way how much do u charge to do ur rendering by thee way i wanna stay in contact with ya if thats alright .. Cheers

louie

Invertex-Art In reply to photostreamer [2013-04-22 03:57:39 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks! I am quite passionate about CG indeed, I love it! And no problem, I love to help out

Well, it all depends what you want to be doing with Maya that would determine the type of hardware you'd want in your computer. If you just want to do some simple characters, or graphic/web design like you mentioned, you really shouldn't need much, especially with the introduction of Viewport 2.0 which runs on a consumer GPU instead of the CPU, so it goes super fast when interacting with high poly objects. Generally you want at least 6+ GB of RAM to keep yourself covered for basic usage. If you start using a lot of high res textures and tonnes of objects, making huge scenes, the memory usage can jump waaaay up. There are people who do personal things in Maya that require more than 32GB of RAM, haha. Do you know your computer specs? I personally use a computer with an Intel Core i7 920 (quad-core) @4ghz, 12GB of DDR3 RAM and 2x Nvidia GTX 460's, and I used Windows 7 64bit.

Pricing.. well, I've never done freelance work for rendering, as modeling is my main focus these days. It would really depend on what you want done. But I'd probably charge around 15 an hour?

Cheers to you too!
