Description Bake-neko- is a mythological creature from Japanese folklore that is a cat with supernatural abilities similar to the kitsune. Bakeneko are known to be born from normal cats that become these creatures over time. The method varies from myth to myth. The most common methods are a cat living to be over ten years old, reaching one kan( 3.75 kg or 8.25 lbs) in weight, growing its tail too long. Occasionally the tail of the cat may fork into two; this particular type of Bakeneko is called a Nekomata.

Tanuki- is a raccoon-like creature from Japanese mythology with supernatural powers and mischievous habits and tendencies. In their original incarnation the Tanuki assumed human form and haunting and possessing people. This happened so often they became an omen of misfortune and disaster. Later in Japanese mythology, their form changed into their current incarnation, similar to your modern day drunkard. In his modern form, the Tanuki is depicted with a large fat stomach, a straw hat, staff attached to a sake flask and a promissory note(an IOU).

Tengu- were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey, and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics.Buddhism long held that the tengu were disruptive demons and harbingers of war. Their image gradually softened, however, into one of protective, if still dangerous, spirits of the mountains and forests. Tengu are associated with the ascetic practice known as Shugendō, and they are usually depicted in the distinctive garb of its followers, the yamabushi.

Kappa- has a beak, webbed feet and a shell on its back and dwells under bridges, pouncing on any who attempt to cross the river. The kappa also has a bowl-like head, in which it keeps a small amount of water, and this is a key to apparently defeating this monster. when you are confronted by a kappa, your only hope is to make it bow to you, thus making the water fall out of its head and draining it of its power.
