Description My screen name on deviantart is xkappax, yet it occurred to me that I don't have a single piece of artwork that actually HAS a kappa in it on here, which is where my screen name came from!

I wanted to do this design for a very, very long time... but I haven't actually had the time to sit down and do it. I know that the hopping ghost is from chinese legends, and not japanese, but I really like the look of that character so I included him.

I hope you guys like this. If you do, and you want it on a shirt,  it can be found at threadless. xkappax.threadless.com/

For more of my art, shirts, photographs and other fun stuff, please visit: www.kappacino.com

And lastly, if anyone would like to support my artistic endeavors, I've set up subscriptions here on Deviantart and I've also started a Ko-Fi, so please visit: ko-fi.com/xkappax

Thank you to anyone and everyone who supports my art and to anyone who has purchased a shirt, sticker or anything else. It means the world to me.

AHHHHH SO MUCH CUTE!!!  I freaking love this!!!

Also, I had no idea that Cactuar was based off a yokai!  What it is it?  (Middle bottom row)

Thank you! I'm so glad you like it! ^___^

The cactuar is based off of something called a Haniwa. Technically, they're not really Yokai, but they do have to do with death. They were little figures made out of terracotta that were buried with the dead back in the 3rd century BC in Japan.  They were shaped like all sorts of things, but the "human" shaped ones are the ones that you tend to see in anime and games, like final fantasy. I think there's also one in animal crossing and kirby's avalanche.

I actually remember seeing them all over old NES games along with kappas and having NO idea what they were until really recently!

hmm... now that is interesting
gyroids, the creatures that resemble Haniwa ask for a certain
amount of money for town projects.

now this is far fetched but, what if those Gyroids are dead spirits
of the residents asking for an offering to help the town. it's
crazy to think but in a world of endless possibilities can something
be called 'impossible'?

Lol, I just noticed that I put BC instead of AD. It's the 3rd century AD when the Haniwa were used.

I love that sort of stuff, too, though. When I was in college, I did an independent study for my illustration class, and I chose Japanese Mythology. That was when I discovered yokai... and I never realized that there were so many of them in old video games until I did that project!
