(The night after the battle with the dragons, Princess Luna was heading home from the infirmary where Nova was being held -
half way through Canterlot, Princess Luna saw the streets were barren; a good majority of the ponies mourning their lost loved ones.. but wandering one of the streets by the barbor shoppe, Luna saw a tiny bat pony colt all alone)

Luna: *walks up to the colt* Little one, why are you outside this time of night?

Colt: *looks up at Princess Luna* Daddy's late.. he should've been home by now..

Luna: *gasps, realizing this colt must've been the son of one of the guards she lost during the battle* Oh, you poor thing... Why are you all alone out here? Where is your mother?

Colt: My mother? I don't have one.. daddy told me she died a long time ago... Princess Luna, where's my daddy?

Luna: *not knowing what to say, Princess Luna stays silent; thinking to herself and staring at the scared bat pony colt*

Colt: ... He's not coming back, is he? Just like mommy?

Luna: *fighting back tears for this newly orphaned colt* No, little one... I'm afraid not.

Colt: *eyes swell up and tears fall silently*

Luna: *comforts the colt* Shh... it'll be alright, little one. What is your name?

Colt: *tries to stop crying to answer her* Z-Zephyr..

Luna: Zephyr? That's a nice name *smiles softly at the colt*

Zephyr: *wipes his eyes* Wh-what do I do now?

Luna: .... You'll come home with me.

Zephyr: *gasps and looks up at Luna with big eyes* What?

Luna: I'll take care of you now, Zephyr.. Unless you do not wish for that?

Zephyr: *doesn't answer, instead starts crying again and hugs her leg*

Luna: *pats his back and hugs him back* Come little one, let's get you inside.. The night grows colder.

Luna meeting little Zephyr, the bat pony; her new adoptive son.

Zephyr's mother died at birth, and his father was slain by a dragon during the very battle where Nova lost her eye sight in her right eye.

Luna felt Zephyr's father's death was her burden, and couldn't bring herself to see him go to an orphanage; so Luna decided to take the little bat pony into her family as her own.
