Description My first stake anvil. Started at a class down at tunnell mill taught by Thomas Latane. Finished something like 2 years after I stared it (took me that long to make all the tools I didn't have to finish forging it). Stake anvil is 11 pieces forge welded together. Stand was one piece of plate forged to shape. Top is a piece of truck leaf spring, the rest are mild steel pieces. This is the piece that will be on display at www.metalmuseum.org/upcoming.h… during the master metalsmith show of Thomas Latane's where it will be a piece from someone he has influenced. It took me approximately 16 days of 8 to 12 hours from start to finish. This did not include the days spent making tools or working on the design or execution, just on the actual making of the piece. I have already gotten to use it some and when it comes back it will be a part of my tools. The stand is only for display as I felt it needed a way to be displayed properly when at the museum. When in use it will either be in the hardy hole/swedgeblock/stake plate or in a stump. All work was done with hand tools. Perifin wax was used on the anvil. Bees wax on the stand. Derrick Phillips struck for the forging of the anvil.

Some of them show the detail a bit better than this picture does.

Thank you. I am hoping to go and see it in the museum.  Just depends on how much work I get or don't get.

Thank you.  I love my tools.  They make everything easier.    and heck if I am going to be spending a lot of time looking at it I want it to be pretty.

Good philosophy! One thing that stands out to me though is that the legs of your support stand seem a bit weedy. You may find that after some use that it gets a little bent out of shape.

Thanks it has served me well so far. Yeah that stand was just to show it off for the show its in.  Not for actual use.  I have a swedge block to put it in and it fits in the hardy hole of my anvil as well when it is in use.  I also plan on mounting some square holes to other parts of my acutrament for its use and other stakes yet to come.

Was the face fastened with the same rivet method as the side cheeks before forge welding?

No the face was forged to shape and then tabs were drawn on the ends of the horn sections.  The mild steel horns then were split on the tips to accept the tabs.  s48.photobucket.com/user/nicro…

The collar did use a similar method to the cheeks though
