such a cool mask. I wish I didn't take a hiatus from bionicle in 2007.

Aw man, you missed a good year in sets and story...

Eh, I didn't like the aesthetics, or the fact that damn near every piece was recycled. I liked getting a lot of new pieces in every set.

Ah, yeah that's understandable. I've always had a weakness for new masks, so all of the sets found their way into our collection.

Hewkii's mask sucked that year.

It's certainly a tricky one to find a MOC who can wear it, but I've always liked it's design, myself.

Nor did I like Matoro's.

Matoro's was indeed... strange. Though, it had a strange power, so it somewhat fit the bill.

that was interesting though. Matoro dealing with having an immoral power.

Yes, it was. Though, I'm not sure if he really knew it was classified as an immoral power. Then again, that team had to learn to disregard a lot of standard Toa rules just to survive and complete their mission.

I think Jaller was the greatest toa that ever lived. Yeah, he didn't make the ultimate sacrifice, but he was going to, and he personified everything that it takes to be a hero, even as a matoran.

Jaller is right up there with Lhikan in my books. The other Toa of fire we see just lack the strength of character that you see in those two. Vakama was afraid of screwing up most of the time, and then over-compensated and almost got his entire team killed. Tahu couldn't see past his own ego half the time, and almost got himself and other members of his team killed several times, even after he "grew up" as he said. Don't get me wrong, both of them had their own strengths, too, but they both have a lot of pretty serious flaws as well, that they never really worked out.
Jaller on the other hand was humble enough to ask for his team-mates advice and input before making decisions, and what was most important to him was doing his duty.

I agree. but cut vakama a LITTTLE slack, he had weird, cryptic visions that were hard to interpret and he didn't really get the support of most of his team. in fact, most of them pretty much treated him like a freak. I think maybe Vakama might have done better if they put a little trust into him.
As for Tahu, yeah I guess he is. But I don't think any Toa had conviction or courage like his.

That's a solid point. Vakama had a really dysfunctional team. When I try to stop and count how many times they fell to squabbling right in the middle of a mission... I give myself a headache(And they never outgrew that either! Even as Turaga they were always arguing!) I always found it a bit amusing that Nokama was actually a much better leader than Vakama, at least with that particular team. When Vakama left the group(due to being sick of their crap XD), and she lead in his absence, she actually got them to work together and follow her without questioning every single thing she said to do.
That's true, though sometimes I think Tahu was a bit too overconfident as well. There's a fine line between courage and stupidity, and Tahu dances all over it. He was always the one rushing ahead(and getting possessed by a Krana for his trouble) and getting himself into trouble. Matau can get away with that because he's a Toa of air and isn't supposed to be leading the group... but Tahu, c'mon man, you're not unbreakable like Toa of air seem to be. I guess props for not dragging his entire team down with him?

Yes, I agree, Nokama was as much or even more leader than Vakama. But she didn't have the visions, so it kinda had to be Vakama *shrugs*

And yeah, that's true, but also was always the first guy willing to make the sacrifice. and his mistakes weren't as numerous as Lewa XD he got his mask infected, and got possessed by a Krana. But contrary to my brother's opinions, they actually did develop as characters. the stories took place in closer proximity than he thought. like didn't the bohrok swarms come in right after they fought makuta and their shadow selves?

That's true. Nokama had the most faith in Vakama's visions of the group, too. Everyone else was convinced he was crazy, while she actually realized they were messages from Mata Nui.
I always thought it was interesting how Nokama was the one always subtly pushing everyone towards their full potential in the team, especially Vakama. She just KNEW he was destined to be the leader, whether he liked it or not.

This is true. Lewa definitely thought with his heart more than his head. (and let's not forget the time Tren Krom bodyswapped with him...)
Yeah, their story happened in a fairly short period of time. It took them only a few days to collect their masks and face their shadow selves, learn how to combine into Toa Kaita, and face Makuta. And then, yeah, pretty much immediately after they had their showdown with Makuta, the Bohrok were unleashed. And only a couple days after they trapped the Bohrok queens, the Bohrok-Kal were released. They did get a break between that and the Rahkshi, long enough for the Matoran to build the Kolhii stadium and have that tournament, but that was it. And then they were off to Metru Nui!
...and then they got shipped to Voya Nui to get their butts kicked by the Piraka. Man, in hindsight, the Toa Metru had it easy in comparison.

so yeah, I think in the end, Nokama was the real leader. and the best of the turaga.

well the toa nuva didn't get turned into monsters, and the toa metru didn't get turned into the most powerful toa of all time XD

and yeah, that's why you don't judge things before you fully understand them, and also PAY ATTENTION!!!

Ira-Nui In reply to MJFSL427 [2015-10-06 06:21:00 +0000 UTC]

She was the one who kept them all together, and wasn't afraid to do what she thought was necessary even when the others held back. Like when Turaga Dume wanted to keep Mata Nui's impending death a secret and she told Jaller anyway because he had a right to know.

Hmm, yeeaahhh fair point.

Paying attention seems to be something Toa are generally REALLY bad at... except the Inika/Mahri. They actually did a pretty decent job all things considered.

It seems so. Though it seems Matau was the only one who was against the idea.

Probably because he was insecure about being a good toa, so he compensated by being enthusiastic about it.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that was more Vakama's thing... Matau was just plain excited about being a Toa and loathe to give it up.

yeah, actually vakama was. but I think the difference between them is matau pretended not to be, vakama admitted it.

Huh, I never picked up on that with Matau. It always seemed like he was the most happy about it of all of them.

I guess it's all pretty much open to interpretation, since we never really get a Matau's-perspective story.
