a picture I took while traveling from north Cyprus to Mersin/Turkey...in Mersin port they denied me entry and I had to stay a whole day on the same ship waiting to return whence I came,
Frankly this picture was worth waiting a whole day, it somehow shows a contrast between the pure unwrinkled water and giant cargo ships polluting this purity.

Why did you try to enter Turkey via Mersin? Even Turkish dont prefer this route. (if they dont live near Mersin)

You know the water doesn't really look like it's polluted at all, but I know it is. A lot of countries just dump raw sludge and garbage into the ocean. They think the ocean can absorb anything, but it can't. I did a paper on marine ecology a few years back, and one of the scientists said that you could see bundles of tar and garbage floating out in the middle of the ocean. Back when I was in high school I used to hang out with this guy from Egypt, and he told me that Egypt dumps all of it's raw sludge into the Mediterranean. When I started to tell him how terrible that was he said, "Egypt is just a small country and the ocean is big, it won't make any difference." Anyways, these days people are getting mercury poisoning from eating fish, sometimes.
Anyways why didn't they let you off the boat? Did you forget your passport or something? I know when I crossed over from Spain to Morocco the Moroccan cops didn't want to let me off the boat because I didn't get my passport stamped.

that is so true... i think every single country that has coasts or rivers passing through dumps their garbage, chemical waste and so into it.... its a shame how we abuse our mother planet...
well hahaha it was kindda stupid of me that i forgot to get a visa, i just thought they would give iraqis a visa in the port.... and i found out that they don't in the hard way
