I'm going to try this technique in Procreate. I use Multiply for shadows, but I usually use the base color to create the shadows instead of any grays. Your technique would save me a lot of time. Though I've never used the "gradient" tool before. Not 100% sure what it does, I'm still learning about layers. I use Multiply for shadows and Lighten "color doge" for lighting effects.Β

Hope it works for you 
The gradient tool is pretty much what it sounds like, it creates different kind of color gradients which is very useful when creating skies and such.
