Description It's birthday season in my family, so the next couple of submissions are presents. I'm poor so I paint!

This one is for my grandmother. Can you guess the song that inspired it?

Edit: ok ok I guess I'll tell you
It's called "The Cat is in the Snow." It's a German/American folk tune (at least that's what an internet search yielded) that my mom learned from my grandma and taught it to me and my sibs...goes like this!

Oh Oh Oh, the cat is in the snow!
She gets her furry leggings on as soon as she begins to run,
Oh-dearie oh Oh-dearie oh!
The cat is in the snow.

Stinks that you can't hear the tune from reading this, but maybe you can look it up, it's a really cute song.

Beautiful. Incredible sense of light in this piece, playful and a little bit melancholy.

Do you use masking for wc?

Hi there, no I do not. I have wondered what techniques might be done with masking and wanted to use it but I am poor and can't afford any.

Thank you! I wish I knew more of these little songs. They don't teach these songs in schools anymore, as far as I know, and that's such a shame.

I have not heard this song, but the picture feels the mood, lightness, and causes the most positive emotions. A good gift!

You know, I LOVE the way you paint trees. They simply look so ethereal in that style!
Also, lovely color palette, and the cat has good movement

Thank you! I really love painting and drawing trees, I tend to see them as part of the natural architecture. They can be so orderly and yet so free and unruly.

Completely true. My grandmother that when you drive through a forest in winter, the trees look like naked people dancing. All similar, yet each one unique

irethkalt In reply to marshmallow-pies [2009-07-08 19:59:07 +0000 UTC]

Hm, that's really a lovely image. In the south most of the trees keep their leaves through the winter, or loose them at differnt rates and we have a lot of pines, so that effect never occurred for me. I'm a southern girl and pine for snow and deciduous forests!

I like this one especially, and the style is so smooth and cosy and serene. It reminds me of the book written by Patricia StJohn, "Treasures of the Snow", which is a wonderful christian children book. In the book, there is a little white cat named Snowball. The cat in your painting makes me think of her.

what a lovely picture(and - although it's probably going to sound somewhat weird-how awesome that you're poor and therefore forced to paint such lovely presents!) the way you did the luminous trees is just masterly,it's all fluffy soft shiny and winterly bright! brilliant!)
