Description
The Färeclas (lit. "Farmer's Sword") is a relatively new development due to the increasing numbers of brigants roaming the lands. It is an attempt to create a sword that is as cheap as possible so even less well-off pesants can afford it. While most people usually carry a Cadág dagger, they are at a disadvantage against a brigant armed with a sword.
Note that there is no such thing as an original Färeclas - every blacksmith has their own version. In most cases it is a blade between 60 and 80 cm in length with a one-handed grip. Some have a crossguard, some just a disc to prevent hand injury. The blade is made from normal steel, not pattern-welded and of varying quality. Typically it is the same steel that is used or knives and spear points. Sometimes, however, other steel is recycled, which is often softer, making the blade less able to hold an edge and more susceptible to wear and corrosion. As they are not designed with a lot of use in mind, that is typically not an issue.
