Description Order #27: Lepidoptera (moths, butterflies)

Size: 32-55 mm wingspan (females larger)

There are so many beautiful lepidopterans, but I wanted to draw a fluffy moth because I think they are underrated in their adorableness. These ones are especially wooly, and they blend in surprisingly well with the helicopter maple seeds. Like many species, the males have bigger pectinate antennae to be able to sense pheromones of a potential mate from kilometres away. They are the smallest of the silk moths.

Butterflies (and moths) have always been a huge artistic inspiration for me and lots of people. Old and even older , among others.
