Description ...and that pretty much sums up my first hours in Oblivion. Note to self: when you see guards do not approach - and definitely don't go asking them directions when you carry stolen goods with you.

So yeah, that can happen if you're used to Skyrim guards who have a bit less psychic abilities than their Cyrodilic equivalents. As you see, Brenna's thieving career didn't quite get the stellar beginning I had hoped for... In all honesty, if I had my very own Oblivion theme song this would be it: [link] So. Many. Sentences. Served.
Ah, well. At least I'm having fun...

Also, they can only spot stolen goods if someone saw you stole it. I talked to guards right after stealing things from that bitch in Leyawiin, and all they can say are generic "good day" responses.

And that's why, when you first get out of jail, the first thing you do is join the Arena. Fight your way to being Grand Champion at Level 1. That way, you will always have money. And once you get to fight as the Grand Champion against creatures, you can always make 3000 septims or more fighting Minotaur Lords. I ALWAYS buy my way out of prison. It never hurts to have a full purse. Never had to serve one iota of jail time in the Thieves' Guild questline. Not when I'm practically Oblivion's answer to Donald Trump, in more ways than one.

We'll build a big, beautiful wall, and make the Daedric Princes pay for it!

And don't worry about Comrade Mehrunes Dagon, I'm sure he won't tamper with the Imperial succession.

Why does every TES game has to start with prison thing!
I'm starting to think they have huge fetish for prisons.

My Argonian Killroy started by robbing the entire Imperial City clean. On his way out he felt his stomach grumble. Despite the large bag of coins dangling from his belt, Killroy decided that food is always better when it's free. A few market-stands later, he was enjoying a nice, fat pear. In his haste to finish the first food he'd had since prison, he started to choke on the seeds. A passing guard noticed and gave him a helpful back blow.
"Are you alright, citizen?"
"*gasp* *gasp* ...yeah. Thanks for that."
"No trouble at all, no trou--hey, isn't that Amantius Allectus's diary?"
"Uhhh..."
A few passing city-folk took notice and started to chime in.
"That ring belongs to my husband!"
"That's my sister's broach!"
"Those are MY vials of blood!"
*everyone stares at Seridur*
"...er, I mean, I found them in Roland Jenseric's house! As part of an investigation!"

My first Oblivion character was an Argonian, too!

He took a visit to Skingrad, and decided he wanted to be a bird. So he jumped off of a bridge, and saved midair. That is the only save I have of that character.

Still, that is funny. Very much so.

My first Oblivion character was also Argonian. I stole a horse, killed like, 3 guards, and fled to the Shivering Isles until I could hoister up enough money to pay my fees. I basically gave up after awhile and gave in to my fate of insanity, then I started a new game as a Khajiit.

A chicken or a horse saw you kill the dude. They can somehow report criminal activity to hold guards.
