Description Merely a sketch of a father and son doing what each do best: teaching and learning. Admittedly drawn on short notice, this was nevertheless quite fun. These are pangolins, which are amazing and unique creatures. (Listen to this for maximum viewing pleasure. youtu.be/gqI59oSu4pY?list=WL )

Well then, get some sleep. May I also point out that you've just revealed your timezone with that comment? At least an approximation.

Hello:

I have a question: Have you been able to develop this race? I do have some ideas but I am cruious to know if you have plans for them .

Hello yourself:
I actually did have some ideas. Now, I am pensive about assigning a singular vocational role to any race, but I can give some ethnic distinctions. For starters, the pangolins of my world, as a general rule, believe that they are descended from dragons. This is due to the scales that cover their bodies. I guess you could call them "Dragonborn", eh? The only other race who thinks themselves "Dragonborn" are bats, for obvious anatomical reasons (the big, leathery wings). This can generate quite a bit of potentially abrasive self-pride, but that is only at the individual level. As for these two in the picture, they are shepherds. Shepherds of what, you ask? Why, fish of course. I guess that makes them "Fishherds". Those poles in their hands may look like shepherds crooks, but they actually have wide, flat nets on the ends, for guiding and governing the fish. They raise these domesticated fish in gigantic, square ponds, built similar to rice paddies, only ever about four feet deep. The Fishherds skate across the surface in wicker gondolas. The chaps on their legs protect them from fish bites.

On an unrelated note, these pangolin Dragonborn are almost always formidable opponents in combat. Best to steer clear of them.

I'm interested to hear you ideas now.

Hello:

I can see why Pangolins can be good fighters, even if not dedicated soldiers, due to what I have read about them. And it is interesting how they see themselves as descendants from dragons.

In my setting I have anthro dragons, so no idea if that could get to work at all (likely not ). But since they are known to eat ants and termites... well, I had some ideas from a secondary story about some larger varieties of those insects created by a deity centuries ago, Pangolins do live in the same continent those insects live and serve as shepherds. Also traders of the exotic goods fro that plaace to the rest of the lands.

If they are good fighters, maybe it can be a rite of passage for young Pangolins to fend against some of the exotic creatures... or maybe they would be tasked to start his own farm to use for trades and food before starting a family.

The concept of giant, domesticated insects raised like livestock intrigues me. I wouldn't mind using the idea, maybe sans the "giant" aspect. Then again, maybe not. Fantasy is fun like that. If one wants to implement an agriculture surrounding the farming of termites the size of dogs, then godspeed and to blazes with the improbabilities! Yes indeed-ee, fantasy is fun. As for the culture of leaving to start a family for a rite of passage into manhood... Don't humans do something very similar? I can see it being a thing, if only for how incredibly common in most cultures it already is. As for the rural nature of their species a maioris, I can see them populating the rich, volcanic regions around the center of my world.

Hello:

It is a very interesting aspect too, then again I've also seen some people making anthro version of insects (even Star Wars has done that). In my case, maybe not as big as dogs, but maybe as big as cats? In lesser number than normal ants and termites... but they would make marabountas if not kept on check . As for exotic goods, maybe some Pangolins in a specific region could farm Honeypot-ants and to sell the liquids in them... maybe some sweet-flavoured liquors could be made out of that somehow.

Yes, that rite is very common in our world, but since I have not done that with that specific name in my setting yet, then it could be done I hope .

Hello:

Pangolins are very rare in anthro form, so yay for originality, specially because you've made them look good considering all the plates were made individually . Also very nice to see those peaceful father-son moments .

I've never heard of a pangolin until dota 2 released one of their new characters. We definitely need more characters of these species though!

"We are the Dragonblessed."

I agree. There exists a lot of potential in a character covered in sharp-edged, segmented armor. And I just looked up the DOTA 2 character you mentioned. I quite like that rendition. Brimming with personality. It almost has a Sly Cooper feel to the art style, but maybe that is just me. Many thanks for commenting.

I’m not very familiar with the sly cooper games but they do both seem to be slippery guys that can smooth talk extremely well. Maybe pangolier has some inspiration from him

Also, since you're already here, and since you clearly DON'T hate anthro art, come on in! Take your shoes off! Prop up with a cup of hot tea! Feel free to take a peek and a poke at my pieces, purposely proffered for your perusal. To wit, why not look at my gallery? I'd be most pleased with your company.

A combination of natural armor and floof... these are amazing creatures. And the son is so adorable, he looks so admirative of his dad.
