In the days before the War of the Pulse, as you recall, the world was ruled by the Pallid Mages. This was so, merely because their tremendous power was incontestable. So many people, simple and pure, beheld with awe these strange white specters, resplendent in richest purple, purest gold, and deepest black, wielding arms that resonated with unknown terror, and walking with unnatural grace. The common creature bowed in submission to these great beings almost without protest. But this was a reign of fear, for the few who did protest the absolute sovereignty of the Pallid Ones were punished without conscience or mercy, and any who would dare stand in outright rebellion were made examples of. Grisly examples. It saddens me, dear listeners, that many were led astray by these Wizards, kneeling in the dust before they who conducted themselves as gods. Why am I saddened?

Because those glittering, mutant, bloated false idols were naught more than fools. They spoke of wisdom without respect, and power without morals. In the end, Death welcomed them no different than the most common beggar. No stone marks their passing, for their own foolishness rent their precious spires to rubble. Good riddance.
