Restraint. Too often photographers seem to think they have to capture the whole scene in vivid detail.

In this image I see restraint on many levels. The vignette at the bottom, and the blue of the sea is like a slowly fading chord, leading one to the diminutive that are the structures, the counter-pointed suspended chord which is the cloud, and the major 7th resolution of the blue sky at the tp.

By alluding to the major themes the artist allows the viewer to harmonise on the melody of blue and pink, weaving their own lines drawn from the motifs so purely presented.

Thank you very much for taking the time to critique my work (you're the first to do so, as it happens), and so eloquently too.

Once again my friend you do an amazing job. Thank you for setting the bar. I was very pessimistic about this critique idea. But in the right hands. People the tech knowledge as well as a good eye and an understanding of what they are seeing, it's a joy to read. This is a wonderful work as well

I'm ambivalent about the critique system, too. As you say, used well, it is a brilliant concept. Just so long as it doesn't become yet another part of the dA popularity contest like pageviews, faves and DD's. If it helps creatives grow into their vision, I am all for it, though. Genuine critique is invaluable. Sycophancy is lies under another guise.

I was inspired by rereading Hofstadter's "Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid", one of the most mind boggling books ever written, and by my love in music (term stolen from Anne McCaffrey).

I keep coming back to this image...

I really really like it.

There is a peacefulness to it that I don't find too often.

Great job!

Thank you very much. Encouraging to hear. All the more so since it didn't prove too popular in terms of Fav's.

Thank You! Although, lacking in popularity here on DA, I really quite like it. I'd been waiting to capture the mist that frequently hovers across the water for some time.

You have to remember that most of the people fav'ing stuff aren't really artists or creative photographers. I place a lot more store by who faves something of mine than how many fave it. And in the final analysis, I take the shots I want to take, not the ones others want to see (unless it's a commercial job, of course!).

I agree with you entirely. Prior to posting it, my wife told me it was one of her favourites to date. After posting it, she asked how it had been received? I said that whilst not popular with the majority, people whose opinions I value, like it. At the end of the day, I chose to capture the moment because it appealed to me.

Thank you very much Malcolm! It seems to have gone largely unnoticed. Probably due to the fact that you have to enlarge it to appeciate it (at least that's my excuse!).

You are very welcome Toby. I always use full view when going through the deviations. I don't think that you can appreciate them otherwise.
