Great detail on the clothes! Do you ever make textures for meshes? If you don't, you should consider it--looks like you'd be pretty good.

very dramatic, love the color. I like how they have the same eye color, makes you wonder about their relationship ^_-

itsLanique In reply to Liamythesh [2010-01-20 02:54:19 +0000 UTC]
mostly just brush and doge&burn, then some splattering on an overlay layer and ALOT of patience, took forever!

Wonderful job. I can see the level of detail you put into this. It's mind-boggling.
I would suggest putting more warmth into her skin. Try a light dusting of orange and using a dark-but-not-THAT-dark red/purple as a shadow color (Darker than what you have here, but not almost-black, either). See what that does for you.

lanique i need your supa pro help!
can you give me tips to drawing realisticly like that again?
like do I use 100% smudge? How many colors when smudging? no matter what I do,
it always ends up like looking... cartoony or POOPY.
any overlaying layers i need to do?

i use around 45 to 48% smudge, and its just really to smoothen it out, you should have the basic colors already, brush them in where you want them to be, then smoothen it, mix them up, brush again, smoothen, brush, and so on until it looks right to you, from your dragon knight i can tell you used like 100%, which is just like pushing around the color also you should use different layers so you dont like mix the skin color up with the armor, its really alot of work to make something look realistic, you have to try to give it even more depth and it helps to work big, like really big, then you can work a bit messier and noone can tell when you resized it

yaaaaaay a lanique guide!!
alright so I never did the brush smooth repeat method i should try that.
also yeah im working on large scale canvas, and i used a bunch
of layers.. but uh, do u use overlay at all?
and do I make a whole layer about making highlights?
do you make a sketch at the beginning?
