In this chapter, Gollum asks about contacting Frodo and someone who perhaps doesn't fully understand what gollum is offers to bring him writing supplies to write a letter. Gollum accepts the writing supplies with a shrug, and proceeds to obsessively draw the Ring all over his (loaned) furniture. somehow Sam and Frodo manage to show up anyway
