Description Finally, the project I've been working on for a while is complete! After becoming a Sam & Max fan in April of this year, and finding out that there are no stuffed animals available, I decided that I wanted to make my own. I didn't have a sewing machine at the time, so I decided I was going to buckle down and actually learn how to crochet (I'd tried it before, apparently with my own "creative" stitching, ha ha ha...) so I could make myself a Max plush. So here is amigurumi (or "crocheted toy") Max in all his plushiness

The only part of him that I used a pattern for (and modified to fit the design) was this Amigurumi Pear from Planet June (the body). The rest of his parts all were custom patterns based on shapes and starters from The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amigurumi by June Gilbank (whose site is in the link). Considering that this was my first major stuffed animal crochet project, I think it turned out pretty good. I mean, I know there are little spaces in the weave and some parts don't look as good as others (especially how the ears look a little uneven) but hey, no one's perfect and goodness knows Max has issues already anyways... but we still love him

Materials used were Red Heart Soft and Super Saver yarns, Crafter's Choice Polyester Fiberfill, Tulip Slick fabric paint, Aleene's Fabric Fusion glue, and cardboard. It's amazing how he's somewhat pose-able even without any wires. Also amazing is the fact that he can stand (with some squashing and adjustment, that is).

Also, the pose on the bottom-left was inspired by crfh-maritza's take on the "Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls" meme XD

Sam & Max (C) Steve Purcell.

Hmm... would you like to try your hand at making one?Β  I could try typing up the pattern for you if you didn't give it out to anyone.

(And learning crochet's not that bad... in fact, the book I mention in the description above was really helpful for learning how to crochet amigurumi... heck, I even completed the body of a hat for my brother using the same stitches just recently.Β  It just takes a little practice, but if you've got the drive for it, you can learn to make your favorite characters in crochet! :3)

Thanks! ^_^ There was a lot of "now how in the world am I going to make THIS?" going on XD Especially with the ears, because Max's are up almost constantly.Β  Thankfully, though, I feel this has definitely given me some insight into how these plushies are made ^_^

Thank you! ^_^ I'm glad it turned out the way it did.

Out of curiosity, how easy/difficult was it to sew the Max plushie you made?Β  Considering how much work it was to crochet this, if I make another Max plushie, I might want to look into sewing one instead.

Quite easy. It was two afternoons of work. The results were worth it.

That easy? ._. I think I'll take two afternoons vs. several weeks XD Not that it wasn't worth it... ^_^U

Ahhh, yes... I read the forum posts That's so cute with your daughter toting him around as a storytime buddy ^_^

At this age (she's 8) Max is her special anti-nightmare buddy. See a monster? See a ghost? Max will shoot him for you!

Thanks! ^_^ Yeah, goodness knows there'd be a market for it... and any other Sam & Max merchandise they'd make.
