I'm guessing Juan admired(s?) Cuba to some extent because remember when Filipinos were still designing the modern day Philippine flag? They mimicked the colors of Cuba's flag! And during the colonial period there was a province in Cuba called Nueva Filipinas but it was like renamed to Pinar del Rio

True that. The Philippine flag was nearly based to the Cuban flag, since Cuba and the Philippines were trying to fight for their independence against Spain.
And I think America comes in to help the Philippines, after America helped liberate Cuba. (The American-Spanish war, if I recall)

Yep! You're right. Oh, one of my teachers actually mentioned that the Cubans were also in Hong Kong the time Philippines was also for the independence against Spain but I'm not sure if that actually happened tho orz It would be cool if it really was true!
