Description Sterling Silver
repoussed skull and chased Gingko leaf
hand woven chain
100% hand made

the skull and the leaf are not braised together, they are two separate pieces, which gives this necklace a nice flow to it. I created this piece in a trade with another local jewelery artist.

Tang Child from Wikipedia:

"The fossil consists of most of the face and mandible with teeth and, uniquely, a natural endocast of the braincase. It is estimated to be 2.5 million years old. Originally thought to have been a monkey or ape, Dart realized that the skull would have been positioned directly above the spine, indicating an upright posture. This is a trait seen in humans, but not other primates.

The Taung Child is believed to have been about 3 years old at the time of its death. "

made the photo a little lighter/more contrast. On another monitor it looked a little dark

SUperimpressive work! And very nice idea with the seperate pieces, it makes it special. I also like the background story, shows that you have thought about your work. Lovely!

Fantastic! That's repoussΓ©? I've seen this really cool repoussΓ© of Darius or Xerxes of the Persian empire, and I was going to pull it up, but I couldn't find it.

yes indeed it is! Most of my metal work is repousse. I personally like repousse work done in Thailand. It's just amazing that they can pound out all those details without using any guide lines. Of course they also have been doing it since they can hold a chisel too haha.

I haven't seen any repousse work from Thailand. The one that I saw from the Persian empire we studied in my art history text. We haven't gotten to Asian work yet.

Awesome piece. The detail on the gingko leaf is beautiful, that must have taken forever.

hey thanks for commenting No actually making the leaf only took me an hour, it only looks it took me forever I chased the top then I put it in a vise and whacked it around with a mallet until I thought it looked "leafy" enough lol

Looks like it was a pretty effective technique. I'll have to remember that for making things leafy. ^_^
