OVERVIEW: The Kriffi is a semi-common flightless bird strictly related to their smaller cousins, the Bobo Birds. Kriffi's diet is mostly made of fruit, seeds and greens - the teeth in their beaks are the remnants of their ancestor's meat based diet. Males show vividly coloured feather crowns and tail feathers, darker hoods and legs, while females display grays / brown crowns and tail feathers and have lighter hoods and legs. Females lay three-four eggs and the sex of their chick can be seen right at birth thanks to their peculiar feather colouration.
These large animals are the preferred mount throughout Eslion: they're especially good natured with children and Kriffi born in captivity tend to take on a very well mannered and gentle behavior.
Wild Kriffi however are difficult to tame and resort to kicking and biting, making them difficult not only to catch, but also tame due to their more aggressive and proud nature. Hunters who try to steal a Kriffi's chick will most likely get pecked and bitten to death, but with a good scare they may be able to steal a Kriffi's egg without too much trouble. Female Kriffi are much more aggressive than males, making them the hardest to tame especially during the nesting weeks. It's far easier to tame a male Kriffi, especially for rookie hunters.
