Description So I saw Gr77n 's CliffWings/VenomWings the other day and I HAD to make one.  Their designs are GORGEOUS.

Anyway, this is Spike; he's a hybrid of the two and a ray of sunshine.  Please be nice to him!  (If any of you guys have characters living on the CliffWing island and want tthem to be friends/enemies, that'd be super neat, so let me know!  I mean, Spike doesn't believe in enemies, so anything like that would be a little one-sided, but could make for some fun character interactions!)

Name: Spike
Age: 10
Gender: Male

Personality: Spike is a ball of energy and joy; he's ruthlessly optimistic and dreams of one day 'changing the world and bringing peace'. He really wishes he could meet his father, and as he's gotten older, he makes more and more attempts to find him (although these always end with his mother chasing him down halfway between the two islands and bringing him back home). He doesn't like the comparisons some dragons make between him and Pitohui, 'since they're both hybrids, after all'. After all, Pitohui was a murderer and a traitor; Spike was neither. His mother often tries to remind her son that his father might not still be alive; he shouldn't get his hopes up. Spike, however, merrily refuses to even consider that his father might have met such a grim fate.

He is terrified of the dark and gets scared easily at night.

Abilities:  Spike has few talents of either parent; he can fly, but cannot hover as long as a normal CliffWing, and lacks the long talons used to grip onto rock faces.  While more agile and manoeuvrable than a VenomWing, he lags behind his CliffWing counterparts.  While he cannot produce venom, he can consume venomous creatures to increase his immunity to it.

Backstory:

Spike's mother, Ascent, was searching the rainforest with a few other CliffWings when they were attacked.  Ascent managed to get away and landed injured at the edge of the forest before passing out due to blood loss.  To her surprise, she woke up; someone had bandaged her wounds and brought her into a shelter.  Ascent hoped that, perhaps, one of the rainforest CliffWings - which her patrol had been sent to find and communicate with - had found and helped her.  That was, at least, until a rough-looking VenomWing with dark green scales entered the hut; Ascent lunged at him, but her injuries flared up and the VenomWing pushed her away without much of a hassle.  'I'm trying to help you,' he explained, sounding perhaps a little stressed, 'can you please not attack me, thank you very much.'

Ascent didn't quite trust the strange VenomWing, but she didn't exactly have any other options.  He introduced himself as Hemlock, and over the next week would come every evening and treat her wounds.  Each time he came back, Ascent learned something new about him - and soon it was very clear to her that Hemlock was some sort of thief or bandit.  He'd sneak in late in the night with sacks of gold or other stolen treasures, and sometimes she'd hear haggling outside when she was trying to sleep.  They settled into a routine, and Ascent found herself starting to relax.

Then, one night, Hemlock came home panicked - they needed to leave, now!  Guards were coming to arrest him, and he didn't want to find out what they'd do to her if they found her here.  Ascent had healed a bit, but was nowhere near recovered, so their escape into the rainforest was slow; they crept through the undergrowth, trying to be quiet as the sound of guards searching the hut echoed around them.  For the next few days, they travelled across the island, keeping to land with cover, when they reached open ground with nowhere to hide.  The ocean was in sight, though, so they were close.  Very close.  They waited for nightfall and began their crossing.

Ascent and Hemlock were lucky and managed to avoid any VenomWings, and once they reached the coast Ascent was recovered enough to fly.  She spent a few days there with Hemlock, regretting that he could not come with her - even though she knew that, even if he could fly, the other CliffWings would probably have attacked him - before finally leaving and heading back to the island.  Ascent was welcomed back with great excitement; the other CliffWings had mourned the loss of her and the others who had been travelling with her, and when she found a month later that she was with egg, the others were even more excited.  Ascent was not excited, however; she knew that the egg had to be Hemlock's, and considered her options.  If the dragon hatched looking like a CliffWing, then perhaps she could pretend it wasn't a hybrid; but if it looked like a VenomWing...

Ascent decided that it was best to be honest.  She told the story of how she'd been rescued by Hemlock and that... the egg was his.  The other CliffWings could barely believe what she was saying, but when, many months later, the egg hatched, they were forced to accept what she had told them.  The dragonet was grudgingly accepted into the tribe - as, after all, they had too few numbers to be picky.

Spike grew up a ball of energy and joy - ruthlessly optimistic about everything - and dreams one day of 'changing the world and bringing peace'.

Ascent tries to remind her son that Hemlock might not be alive; he shouldn't get his hopes up.  Spike, however, merrily refuses to even consider that his father might have met such a grim fate.

Current residence: The Slate Mounds (CliffWing islands)

:0 a soft child, I love him!

I'm currently working on a CLiffwing myself, I love the lore, and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind Spike being a friend to my WIP nervous child who hoards her books?
