This was inspired by something someone said at random when I was in high school. In fact this image was done in 2002 and has been sitting in a packed up case for 8 years.Where's the first one you ask?

Seems like you got the good beginnings of some art. If it's not out of line when did you start as an artist?

Well I'm 25, I started about the same place you did. I did a lot of learning on my own, and a lot of trial and error. Eventually when i hit about 15 I met the artist that would help me control my talents.
I can understand wanting to be the artist people look up too, but even those artist had people they looked up to. So I guess what I'm really asking; is there an artist you would like to match in skill?

lol! I actually had a brother that was really good at art and when i was really little probably about 6, i asked him to draw a dinosaur i saw on TV. He told me to do it myself. heh. So in some weird way I got mad for 19 years and have been doing it since.
As far as artist. I know you like dragons from your gallery, and I know you like some cartoons.
Art involves a lot of study on HOW to make lines work, so looking at an artist and how they do it tends to be a great way to understand how you can make it work.
Artist that I would recommend that you'd like would be, Frank Frazzetta, Larry Elmore, and Brom would be good artist to look up and or study to see how they do it.
This doesn't mean they are the only way, but looking at different artist will help you decide thing you like and don't like when making things you like.

Well a little competition never hurt 
A bunch of artist lose their way by trying to be things they aren't or do work outside their experience's. This can be good, but as an artist it should always be about what YOU want. Don't be afraid to make things you like and don't back down if people give you crap about it. Most of them can't even draw so what can they say that even matters?
The best advice I can give you is practice, but always try something new every time.
Is your brother older or younger and is he better? If so why do you feel that way?

Well it is you duty then sir as a fellow younger brother like myself to one day surpass him! That'll show'em
Its 5am where I am so I'm a bit tired, cuz I hasn't slept yet. But before I go I got one more pearl of art wisdom for you.
Observation.
Look at all the things you see in everyday life and then think about how they are similar or like the things that you want to draw. memorize those things and I promise you'll start to see a world of difference in your own work.
