Description Yup, you're reading that right.

Wizard.

Speaking purely in D&D Terms, having a Wizard that uses martial weapons (at least more than a staff or dagger) is actually not that hard. Just make 'em a variant human (or play at a table that allows feats at level one) and pick up the Weapon Master feat. Boom, your wizard can use four additional weapons. Just make sure you've got a good physical stat (STR or DEX) and boom, you've got a Martial Wizard. Not the most optimal build, and technically not better than a straight up Fighter (especially if you pick an Eldritch Knight), but I'm going for a Wizard that can lean on a weapon as a side piece, not a warrior with magic in their back pocket.

So yeah, in a D&D Campaign, High Strength Wizard with a feat to wield a sword (and a few other weapons, lol).

In our real world, old school philosophers were just as much nerds as they were athletes. Hell, 'Plato' was a wrestler and 'Plato' wasn't even his real name, it was a nickname from his athletic career. And to quote myself,

"To study the elements of the universe, one can not just expand their mind. Their body needs to be worked as well."

If you know that quote, then yeah, I wrote that, lol.

And in terms of fantasy, the idea of a 'wizard' is very fluid. We have the traditional idea of an old man with a long beard and robes, but we also have the idea of young, sexy witches, schools for witchcraft, and we have young men who are basically martial artists with extra steps. Hell, the archetypical modern day Wizard, Gandalf, carries a sword.
