Description This is a digital drawing of the iconic poster from the thriller movie Jaws to commemorate the 45th anniversary of one of the most iconic films in history.

Based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, the plot involves a great white shark invading the coast of the fictional Amity Island and begins attacking anyone who comes into the water. It is up to the Chief of Police named Martin Brody(played by Roy Scheider), an oceanographer named Matt Hooper(played by Richard Dreyfuss), and a fisherman named Quint(played by Robert Shaw) to venture out into the ocean in order to hunt down the shark and kill it.
The film was intended to cost $4 million but it ended up costing $9 million, filming was supposed to take 55 days but it took 159 days instead. This was because a significant portion of the movie was filmed in the ocean which caused many production problems; the robotic sharks constantly malfunctioned, unwanted boats occasionally appeared in the background, the cameras frequently got soaked, and the actors complained of sea sickness. Screenplay writer Carl Gottlieb was nearly decapitated by a boat propeller and actor Richard Dreyfuss became nearly imprisoned in a steel cage. All of these problems forced director Steven Spielberg to rewrite several scenes from the movie. Despite working 12 hour days, they were only able to successfully shoot an average of just 3 scenes a day - if they got any scenes done at all. Spielberg was convinced that Jaws was going to kill his career but instead, it was the movie that made him a household name.
Despite these horrendous production problems, Jaws was released in theaters on June 20th, 1975 earning over $470 million at the box office making to the highest grossing movie at that time. The film was also an overwhelming critical success and as of 2020, the film holds a 98% on RottenTomatoes. I very much enjoy the film for it's highly polished story, it's talented cast, and just the sheer amount of suspense it has. For the majority of the film, you don't even see the shark yet it was built up like mad and when you finally did see it gobble somebody up(like with Quint near the end), the payoff was legitimately terrifying. Jaws has a tremendous influence over the way films are today and it's widely regarded as a cinematic classic. Definitely check out the film if you haven't seen it already.
