JosΓ©, as always, I am deeply moved by your photo. This plainly shows that something is going terribly wrong with mankind. I have to confess that I would feel uncomfortable myself when in a like situation. But the fact that we feel sad and are compassionate when looking at such photos is a sign that all is not yet lost.

This is one of our tragedies.
If someone we know has an accident we try to help and feel moved.
If a complete stranger and especially one who doesn't look like us, needs help, we are suspicious or indifferent. Is she really crippled? Do foreigners belong among us?
Begging is a terrible thing. We feel uncomfortable and especially the beggar is undignified and humiliated.
Sometimes I give because I think the beggar has less than I do in any case.
Sometimes I don't give and I feel bad.
Begging should not be needed. The world is VERY rich. We should have a system that shares these riches.
One day in London a long time ago we were out and we passed by a young man sitting on the ground begging. He looked ill, drugs I think.
My son asked him if he wanted a cigarette because he didn't want to give him drug money.
That evening I felt very upset and wept. The beggar was the same age as my son...
I don't like going to town because of this. I prefer to give money to associations that help people, and to fight for a better world.

São reais, é certo, são fruto da sociedade em que vivemos, que por vezes nos esforçamos por mudar mas que vai ter sempre ao mesmo, infelizmente. à uma imagem bela, mas controversa, com dois lado como se fosse uma moeda...

Wow.. that's awful.. where I grew up, and where I live now, you don't see that sort of thing. When I was 17, I went to Toronto, and I saw homeless people, with signs, and asking for help... and it was so overwhleming
