Description
A somewhat generic Iksar Monk from EverQuest created as a favor for an acquaintance at WarCraft Campaigns (www.wc3campaigns.com). Pardon the somewhat... gross colours, but as EQ fans know, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the colour choices the creators made available for monk armour. -_-The unreduced version can be found at this [link] - and please check out the details in full-size view. Hi! Nope, not doing texturing much these days. Did a couple for SC2 models but retextures take up too much space in SC2 mods so they weren't used. And probably weren't that great anyway.
Just been doing the same old 2D character stuff!

IIRC, what he's wearing is leather armor, which is generally brown. There was a hilarious Ctrl Alt Del strip talking about the difference between "realistic" EQ2 (yes, I know this drawing is of an EQ1 Iksar, I still play it) armor and "cartoonish" WoW armor called "Fashion vs. Function."
Onto the actual drawing, though: When I first saw this, I thought for sure that it was an altered screenshot. It's absolutely amazing.

I used to play an Iksar monk myself. I played for 4 years. Loved the character I created, but turned out EQ as a game wasn't all that fun in the end. Either way, just playing the character was fun, and your picture captures the look and feel of the Iksar monk. O teh nostalgia!

Wonderful! Definatly the best Iksar picture I've seen done yet. Everyone tends to either beak or iguana-fy them horridly.
The muscle structure is rather sexily designed, I wish I could capture it like that. ^_~

His scaly skin looks cool, but the transition to human skin jars me. I guess you can't do anything about that though.

Oh, well the forarms just really look like human skin then. I guess it's because of all the muscles and the color. Bracers are supposed to be more hard and smooth aren't they?

A lot of EQ's monk armour just basically changed the colour of the character's skin (arm, chest, etc) - in this case, they added some dark grayish straps then just changed the hue of the scales inbetween the bands to orange, rather than 3D modelling a bracer to go over the character's arm. I guess it's supposed to be cloth - EQ monks could only wear cloth and leather and a few other select armours, usually all soft and pliable types.

Comments: first, I don't like lizards (don't beat me up!)... Second, the colors are strange but as you say, its their choices, and even the weirds choices of colors can make a good picture, like this one. Thrid, and not less important, you made a great job. EQ fans will be thrilled, I think.

Haha, thank you. Iksar were rough to play at first, but lately with Luclin and all faction isn't a very big deal.

I haven't played since.. erm.. right before Luclin came out I think. I had an iksar necro for a short time. The robes were not flattering on them. My two mains were erud necro and wood elf druid (girly one at that).
If I still played EQ I'd never get any artwork done.

lol Isn't that the truth! They knew how to addict the masses. And you're right, Iksar necros looked a bit goofy.
I played a couple of Dark Elf Rogues (the first before rogues got their lovin' from the devs) on a team PvP server, and then a Dark Elf Enchantress (that was a blast!) and my last was an Iksar BST, I guess over a year ago now. Sexy sexy tail, I tell ya.

The strength and grace are amazing. I am guessing he's inspired by the incredible dancers of SE Asia, with all their... strength and grace? (*completely lost eloquence, there, sorry*) I've never thought of lizards as dancers like this, before, but after a few minutes of looking, I have to wonder why on earth I haven't. You make it look so natural to be an armored lizard dancing on one leg!
