Deep in the wintery forest is where the snow princess holds her court.This was initially drawn with brown pencil on watercolor paper and then I painted over it with a series of ink washes. Different parts of the scenery - trees, falling snow - were painted on separate sheets of paper and then added as layers in Photoshop. All of the color was painted in Photoshop with my tablet. I based the snow princess on a photo of myself. I started out looking at various random models from magazines, but they all looked too, well, modely and not so much like an actual person. And I'd rather for this snow princess to look believeable and not like some total fantasy person. Haha, if that makes any sense.

I like her face a lot and adornments in her hair. Yes, she's very realistic but at the same way she's also the character of some fairy tale.

I think it's kind of inevitable that this is going to get some Narnia references, even though that's not really what I was going for. The White Witch is just such a well known image that it easily comes to mind.

You did so much work on pulling it together and it looks like you painted it all together from the start! The ink wash is wonderful. I'm always awed at how well you can get shading with a wet medium.

Thanks very much! I've been practicing with ink washes a lot lately and keep finding out little tricks that I can use. I'm not that great with watercolor, but if I can get some kind of a solid base down with the ink to work off of it's much easier. Plus, I just have more control adding the color in Photoshop than I would if I was using watercolor. I'm glad to hear that you think this method is working well! Thanks for the lovely feedback.
