Odin is the most powerful god worshiped in the ancient Germanic culture. He's a wandering sorcerer that's associated with wisdom, healing, battle, poetry, and the creation of the runic alphabet. After researching the Germanic culture I think his character originated from the druids of their societies. The druids were a noble class that functioned as religious leaders, legal authorities, medical professionals, political advisers and lorekeepers. Rulers often came to them seeking advice and knowledge. Odin was fused into many other cultures, he was the inspiration behind Christmas (Yule) and the depiction of Santa Claus. Wednesday is also named after him, in Germanic culture it was Odin's Day (Wotan's day). It was awesome learning more about this culture and their myths, I would definitely recommend it to anyone that's interested.
