Description Humans are pathetic creatures.
We have to hurt each other in order to make ourselves feel better.
If you call someone something enough times, they will eventually become that.
If you call me a slut, I'll start sleeping around.
If you call me emo, I'll get depressed.
If you call me pretty, I'll have a good self esteem.
If you call me a bitch, I'll think I'm better than everyone else.
We become what everyone else tells us we are, because it becomes embedded into our brains, just stop labeling each other, it's stupid.

doesnt always work that way. i keep being told by people im not fat and im really nice and some people even think i look good and i cant accept any of that and i never will. also the bad stuff i say to myself and if other people say it then it just reinforces the image i already have. It may not be true and i dont change but its all i see. so im afraid i dont completely agree with this in my case, but then i am really messed up so im not really surprised.

Really good idea, i see it happening in others, very well done (and im sorry but you are good looking and you should already believe that cause im sure you have seen the person in the mirror)

That's because our self opinions trump all, but they can be influenced by others opinions of us. If you have low self esteem, which it sounds like you do, then we won't listen to the positive opinions because we don't believe they're true. It's easy to make someone happy, sad, but it's hard to make someone sad, happy.

I disagree. Only the naive intentionally harm each other to feel better about themselves, and only the naive conform to the blank labeling of themselves by others. If one conforms to initially false accusations against him or herself then it is his or her own fault for being naive. People who know themselves could not care less about such labels in the first place.

Yes, but at younger ages, you're more likely to be influenced by other people's opinions, especially if you're going through the identity crisis stage we all go through in adolescence.

This piece would be perfect for a new project we are developing -- an online gallery for artists who have been bullied or who explore the theme of bullying in their work. It's called the You Will Rise Project. Check it out here: [link] and let us know if you would be willing to share this piece on the site. Read the "Submit Your Work" section of the site for details. Thanks!

Not a bad image, though the description is a little negative. I don't mean that in the obvious way, but more than a pessimistic way. If you give in and let it get to you it shows your own weakness really...and I know what I'm talking about...I was bullied all through school. Right now I'm in college, soon to graduate, loving what I do and have some of the greatest friends. I feel good about myself and couldn't ask for more.

I have to disagree with you.
Everyone's brain is different, but it is a fragile organ, especially in youth.
Generally: A person goes through a 'identity crisis' in their adolescence, where they ponder who they are. This is when they are at our weakest, they have no idea who they are, and then there's all these people calling them nasty things, so then they use those words define who they are, or they let it tear down their self esteem. Thus, they insult other people to make themselves feel better. And the cycle continues.
But as a person develops, they grow out of this stage and don't let other people's opinions have so much influence.
That's just my opinion.
