We need to be able to compete in that type of engagement, to counter other foes who are aggressive or desperate. Our interdiction spheres and artillery ship lineups mean very little if we cannot fend off foes which push into close range. It happens more often than you might think. Overview: The Relegator class was first drawn up by the war ministry during the Renaissance of around 750DE. Cauldarion war ministers grew tired of designing and commissioning ever larger and more expensive battleships and opted to simply design and build the largest and most powerful ship even remotely feasible. Initially the perceived waste of resources was mocked by the galaxy and the ministers shamed for their arrogance. However the ship in combat trials proved to be moderately effective. Further efforts to upgrade and refine the design led to the modern Relegator line of warships. Being amongst the largest standard warships they are designed primarily for direct mid-close range engagements with other vessels. Utilizing a traditional and brute force doctrine of overwhelming tonnage, shield strength and firepower to overwhelm and destroy enemies. They tend to be deployed amongst fractal lotus formations as a means to deter any given enemy against a close range engagement. Alternatively they could be utilized as siegebreakers to break through defensive lines. Some admirals chose to utilize the vessels as flagships even though a Paragon or Omniscience would service this role better, and their actual role was in a frontline engagement where losses were anticipated. Relegators often formed “dreadnought quads” within major fleets wherein they would operate in groups of four alongside a substantial escort of cruisers and battlecruisers. Though these formations only existed in the largest fleets and others often had to make do with singular or twin sets of ships.

Passive Defense: The hull armor is comprised of many spaced layers of Tazutun quasicrystal coated Muran plates. This would be alloyed with a small amount Arsium-345 to increase material strength and linked to a thermally superconducting system designed to which away heat. The inner layer would be made of thousands of layers of teflon-coated graphmesh with conductive materials forming a faraday cage around the internals of the ship and prevent spalling. The Relegator made use of a unique armor setup called “Jagtooth armor”. This meant that though the outer and inner layers were fairly traditional the middle layer would be covered in ridges or pyramids made of dense durable material and spaced away from the outer layer. When struck with a hypervelocity projectile or explosion, the ridges would deflect and break up the penetrative stream of plasma created when the blast perforated the outer armor, preventing it from penetrating directly inward, greatly reducing the amount of incoming damage to internal systems. Though not an insurmountable defense and one that was still costly in terms of material and mass, it made the ship partially immune to even dedicated anti armor weapons.
Active Defense: The Relegator utilized a triple-overlap hardlight shield. This meant that each section of the hull was covered by no less than three separate generators and three sensors observing that section and poised to react. Since the shield plates were immensely resilient, able to survive attacks which would normally shear lesser gaussian warships apart in a single blow and could cause substantial damage to the ship hammer blows from a single powerful weapons system would often be rendered ineffective. The shield could be strained by sustained volley bombardements from multiple angles or continuous damage weapons but with such immense power generation and reserves even these measures were only partially effective and often forced a protracted engagement with the ship. Hardlight hexes could be sustained for prolonged periods and massive sheets of shielding erected to block entire walls of fire. Aggressive electronic warfare attacks could confuse the shield distribution computers potentially wasting power or allowing damage to pass through.
Electronics: (Not Comprehensive)
-Shipmaster CI/AI. Some Relegators may make use of a formerly organic uploaded mind as a shipmaster Ci. This transorganic mind will adopt the ship as their body and assume command of many of its functions. Such individuals can greatly increase the effectiveness of a ship and in certain cases outstrip organic crews. Most however utilize a generic shipmaster AI protocol. -
1000 Cyberwarfare AI. Dumb AI which endlessly peruse the ships systems searching for discrepancies that could indicate attempted hacking and autonomously purge malignant software.
-10 Cyberwarfare Cies. ‘smart’ fully sentient cybernetic intelligence created for the purposes of cyberwarfare. Vastly more intelligent than a cyberwarfare Ai and can actually spawn additional Ai systems and reconfigure the ship’s computer system.
-PID system. Personal identifier registry controlling who can access the ship’s system based on identifier symbiote.
-Shield control computer. Advanced system linked into the sensors that uses predictive algorithms and sensor monitoring to anticipate enemy fire and generate hard light plates to avoid damage. Can be tuned for specific weapons or throttled to allow the ship to take some damage but use less power. -Kon-Shaper 5123 central computer core. The ship made use of a singular Kon-Shaper 5123 central computer core. This was composed of 134,217,728 3d “layers” of PTM cores arrayed in a 512^3 block. connected with quantum tunnel bridges to create a 4 dimensional computation core. Information would run between logic gates across four dimensions. The core was heavily shielded by a box made of pure arsium and provided a specialized particle screen which protected it from weakly interacting particles or high energy cosmic rays. There were doubtless countless less advanced computer systems intended to run specialized processes.
-Kon-SR targeting suite. A highly advanced targeting software designed specifically for target acquisition and prioritization in high stress scenarios. This utilized the ships main computer core to assist firing the weapons systems when in close range engagements. -Subspace navigation suite. Designed to navigate higher dimensional subspace and contains a map of gravity shadows and higher dimensional topography to plot optimal courses when traveling at FTL speeds.
-Sensor computer. Designed to interpret and analyze sensor data. Can locate discrepancies in sensor data and alert crew members if potential stealth craft are identified, or raise the alarm for other anomalies.
-Commscan computer. Encrypts and decrypts military communications. Generates false communications. Scans incoming communications for malicious content and terminates it on interception.
-Tightbeam radio arrays. Secondary communications arrays that can beam powerful directional radio signals. These can double as barrage jammers.
-Subspace communications. A system which beams long radio waves through subspace configured to arrive at a set destination. A potentially one-way method of communication which is substantially FTL.
-Quantum tunnel comms line. Contains entangled quantum tunnel particles for instantaneous communication between any two points, though these communications are low bandwidth.
Sensors:
-Advanced passive FEMS system able to see all waveforms of the electromagnetic spectrum and heavily hardened against interference. Notable are the LT-3000 Compound sensor banks installed on the forward Class-A mounting points. These “compound eye” sensor banks actually had fairly poor acuity but were very durable and contained advanced self-healing components designed to survive and screen out high energy flashes and strobing from high intensity space warfare. This made them incredibly difficult to wholly disable with electronic blinding. -Active variable radar and visible light laser lidar system.
-SLJ-430 “Jawdropper” Jamming array. This immensely powerful electronic warfare system could be used to blind or disrupt various traditional and superluminal sensors and communications. Projecting radio-holograms to create decoys and a quantum jamming disruption field which would heavily garble superluminal communications. This system, designed for sieges could effectively blot out communications and targeting systems of an entire developed star system.
-SIS (Subspace Induction Sensor System MK303). Immensely powerful system designed to scan higher dimensions and identify mass sources. Long range in subspace but short range in real space. Power and computationally expensive to run.
-GMTSS system. Multiple internal gravitational microtractor systems designed to assist with target locking when optics fail or in stealth detection.
Utilities:
-Bio reactor. Produces food from cell cultures for the crew and onboard marines.
-Medical facility with semi-automated reconstruction theaters, drug printers and cryogenic stasis pods. -The life support system uses a cryogenic ductless atmosphere system. This means the atmospheric gasses are liquefied and pumped around the ship, the ship has no air ducts only small insulated cryogenic tubes. The ship’s internal atmosphere is made of an argon-neon-oxygen mixture. -There are sterilization sprayers hidden around the ship, specifically on the entrance to the bridge, in the hangars and docking gangways. -The ship has powerful reactive inertial dampeners in the livable, capable of cancellation up to 35g of acceleration. However the entire crew are provided with and drilled on heading to crash couches in the event of an emergency. The artificial gravity system also produces microscopic gravity waves configured to interfere with teleportation and phasic technology. -The Relegator has two spacetime lattice interdiction systems. One is a low power localized field only surrounding the immediate vicinity of the ship. This field autonomously activates when the ship leaves FTL and denies any form of teleportation stream or phasic weaponry from being sent inside the vessel. The second is a genuine SLAI-V interdiction field. The V stood for variable meaning the range of interdiction could be throttled varying from the immediate vicinity of the ship out to around a light-minute. -The Relegator has extensive onboard factory facilities. These can process raw materials or scrap harvested from disabled vessels or natural sources and used to conduct repairs the ship or even produce new munitions, combat units, or even small vessels as needed.
Power Generation:
-The Ship has a set of 15 MX-2500 9th generation Singularity reactors. These can provide a tremendous amount of energy, allowing the ship to sustain viciously fast-firing volleys of railguns, perpetual beams of hard light energy or immense hex walls capable of surviving an entire fleets worth of firepower, when the system was properly calibrated.
-The ship has hundreds of smaller fusion reactors. Though the power output of these is exponentially lower and they are mostly designed to either jump start the main reactor or allow the ship to continue basic functions if the main reactors go offline.
-There are also a hundred thousand momentum capacitors; immense magnetically levitated spheres of dense materials (typically Osmium) that are used as flywheels to store energy for bursts of power usage.
-Secondary nanobattery banks are scattered throughout the ship functioning as emergency backup power if all else fails.
Troop Compliment: -The Relegator carries 20 divisions (around 1,600,000) gaussian marines along with all associated military equipment, in addition to a shipboard security force of squires meant to repel boarding actions. The total number of practical infantry units numbers around 25,000,000.
Crew Compliment:
-The Relegator can be operated with a crew of 36,500. This includes 6,500 officers, 30,000 enlisted and around 2,500,000 robotic squires, primarily functioning as an ecosystem of drones that would autonomously maintain and repair basic ship components and operate logistical duties.
Ship Compliment:
-64 Hyperion class frigates
-2000 Vanguard gunships
-4096 fighter squadrons with drone escorts
-4096 drop craft/shuttles.
Engines+FTL Drive:
-The sublight power is a high powered by four Hydrodynamic Protium Ringjets. Liquid metallic hydrogen is pumped into an open fusion chamber and forced to fuse via intense magnetic fields. This results in a powerful jet of radioactive iron expelled out the back at relativistic speeds. This drive can allow the ship to attain the 35g of acceleration standard to gaussian naval vessels.
-The ship has a deuterium-tritium afterburner system which can temporarily allow higher accelerations, as much as 70g. But this is limited use as it is very fuel-efficient and places immense strain on the engine components.
-There are also 96 major reaction thruster plates. Low profile and damage resilient but more inefficient than the main thrusters. Used primarily for turning.
-The FTL system is an advanced military-grade subspace drive. As subspace drives became more efficient at large scales the Relegator was capable of a classified acceleration of approximately 3000 lightyears per hour. Though this classified capability, and the advertised speed is a lesser 2000 lightyears per hour.
