Description "...but he zigged and I zagged and the ground was icy and I ended up on my tuchas watching my good-for-nuthin' hat roll right out into the middle of Main Street...

...and under the wheels of a police cruiser.

Which was followed by a hearse.

That was leading a procession of 54 of the city's old guard.

So I bid my old friend a fond farewell and went to drown my sorrows in a cut crustal glass of something cold and clear, all the while thinking that there was something strangely familiar about all this..."

=======================

A rare opportunity presented itself this evening, so I took it and shot some images that were requested by ~Jetrie and ~Kaiyuga to (hopefully) aid in the illustration of a story on which they are collaborating. I believe these are going to be used as pose references, but if you can find other uses for them so much the better.

The images featuring this character are subtitled 'sam', which stands for 'slipped a mickey' not for Sam Spade (Sam would never look this unkempt - even after having been slipped a mickey...)

Download for the full-size image.

I really like this image. Nice work. If you ever find yourself in Tampa, give a call and we can grab a cup of coffee.

Thank you! I actually live in Orlando! I haven't been in Tampa in a good time, though. But I will definitely have to let you know should I find myself in the area.

go through all that effort to save your hat only to have it crushed in the street. So sad. But hey, when you find a good hat you love you've gotta do what you've gotta do... I'd do the same for MY fav. hat.

why not wait for the funeral to pass? it's 54 cars or so. worth the hat!

jademacalla In reply to sparkpenguin [2008-10-13 13:52:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but now it's a flat hat, smooshed into a felty pulp! And it probably smells like beer (Irish funeral, you know).

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! okay so I feel as if I'm missing a serious inside joke - but the image itself combined with you saying tuchas is enough to garner a chuckle

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jademacalla In reply to oibyrd [2008-10-13 03:26:55 +0000 UTC]

- Actually, no joke (I don't think so, anyway), just an odd little scene that sprang up unbidden as I was posting the first of these. I love Noir and it was fun messy around with goofy metaphors and cliches. Case in point; in #2 I REALLY wanted to write "She had legs all the way up to her @$$", but thought better of it since this is more or less a family show. (Maybe PG-13)

I just realized that there is a bit of an inside joke in #5. The reference to 'goolies' is an (extremely) oblique homage to The Adrian Mole Diaries, by Sue Townsend. If anyone can name the scene whence that comes I'll give them 2,000 bonus points!!!!!
